"No. Janiece, you cannot just randomly attend work with me. And I'm not about to take pictures of comatose patients." I laughed at the ridiculous request.

"You can't come home every night telling about these men and not have pictures!" She whined.

"You need help. It's not that deep. Are you doing your internship in the city today? Maybe we can catch lunch." I proposed. "And no, not at the hospital."

"Then, no. I'm not." She said.

"Fine. I'll just get lunch with Michael again I guess."

"Dr. DickMeDown? What'll that be? The sixth time this month? I must need to attend. This is getting serious. I take my break around 3. I'll be there." She explained.

"Of course you're free now. But no, it's the seventh and he's just very nice. It's nothing serious. But I'll see you then, I'm just getting here now."

"Okay, go do your thing. Love youuu." She sang.

"I love you too, boo." I said, stuffing my phone into my bag.

On the way to Dr. Somers' office, I overheard a request for her over the intercom.

She had a phone call coming in, and soon enough I heard the phone ring from her office.

I decided not to stop by and interrupt so I went to the nurses closet to put my things up in my locker.

After I signed in for the day, I checked the charts to see if anyone needed my help. There were no requests put in so I went back to Dr. Somers to ask her what I'd do today besides see to Mr. Allen.

It wasn't time for his hygiene, so I didn't want to just hang around him and bother his slumber.

But, on the other hand...

I didn't really have much else to do.

Maybe it wouldn't hurt to just start working on some of his gross motor regimen.

Or at least that's the excuse I'm using to spend more time around him.

Walking to his room was uneventful. Luckily none of the other nurses were hanging around like they usually did.

I get that the man was attractive, but he's still a comatose patient. It's straight up weird to pawn over him like they did.

Checking his vitals and chart updates told me everything was stable and normal otherwise.

I washed my hands, making sure they were sterile. Then, I applied hand sanitizer as the procedure called for.

If I was going to be doing this, it had to be done the right way.

A.K.A. that's what I'm telling myself to hide the fact that I came here to just be around him.

It was nice.

As I placed my hands on his bicep and forearm to begin movement, the heart monitor's beeps sped up like the last time.

I figured this was a good sign, that's he's closer to consciousness if he is reacting to this.

Smiling, I began to raise and flex his arm, when I heard what sounded like strained breathing.

Looking down, my eyes met with the most electrifying blue orbs I've ever seen on someone.

He was awake.

He was awake?

He was awake!

Gasping, I placed him arm down gently ready to go get one of the nurses or someone for help.

Mr. Allen looked around, clearly a little confused.

Then he looked up at me and we both froze for a second

Then he looked up at me and we both froze for a second.

Snapping out of it, I spoke reassuring him he was okay and I was going to get his doctor.

I flagged down a nurse who paged the doctor.

Back in the room, they were checking his vitals now that he was awake.

Not wanting to bother them or get in the way, I left.

Guess I'll just have to wait until my next shift to see him. I'm sure this is a crazy time for him. I wanted nothing more than to comfort him but seeing as we're complete strangers and I'm not his doctor yet, it wouldn't make sense for me to be there.
