"Are you ready," I asked as we braved the crowds and reported. Going to stand near the gates.
Charlie nodded nervously as he gripped my hand. I brushed off the dress my had given me, wrapping my shall tighter around my shoulders.
We watched the other winners arrive one by one ambushing the reporters.
"Well that's four kids Cherry, I have five on my list! Where is the other child?" A male reported asked.
We paled as the woman beside him spotted us and rushed over.
"Well there's he is now! Charlie Bucket, the kid who won his ticket just yesterday. Charlie, the world's a-watching. Do you have anything to say?" She asked.
"Uh...How d'ya do?" Charlie said nervously.
"How d'ya do?" The man questioned.
"Is that all?" Cherry asked.
"Sorry?" Charlie said, before turning back to me as we made our way back to the gates, watching the clock.
The clock chimed noon and the gates opened by themselves and we all took a step back in awe, a hush falling over the crowd.
"Ladies and gentleman. The clock strikes, the hour has come. Here in the shadow of Wonka's factory we stand. But where is that man who built it. Whither the shadowy confectioner who has hidden away in his sugar coated shangri la for more than forty years. The man they call!" I heard the reported annouce as every other reported began chanting Wonkas name.
"Willy Wonka. Willy Wonka."
My heart pounded as the doors opened. And an old man hobbled his way out, hunched over with a cane.
"Won't you help me, please? I'm afraid that I might fall. For my eyes and knees Have grown frail behind this wall...Let me come to you Though it appears I've lost my pep!" Wonka rasped out, his entire body shaking. "But as this ancient relic read In the Tao of Ching, it said "A journey of a thousand miles Begins with just one step"" And with that he fell over.
I went to immediately help him stand but he was rushed by a frenzy of reporters snapping away with their cameras.
"Vultures!" I hissed as I was shoved back by Charlie
Charlie looked at me nervously, I tried to send an encouraging smile.
The reporters gasped and jumped back. Where the old man had stood, a younger man stood, a mischievous smile on his lips. He chuckled deep in his chest as he looked around at us. I blushed when our eyes met.
"Beyond this door's a factory, Begat from just a bean. Beyond this door, surprises in store. But it must be believed to be seen" Wonka started addressing the reporters. " Beyond this door's invention, Where mind meets with machine. Beyond these gates, astonishment waits. But it must be believed to be seen," He started taking a few steps forwards, twirling his cane.
"No magic spells, no potions Forswear legerdemain. My kingdom's created from notions, All swirling inside of my brain" his tone taking on a crazed air.
"Beyond this door's a banquet, Of Wonka-made cuisine A lucky few will get to pass through, but it must be believed to be seen!"
I gasped as he gripped my hand and whirled me away from Charlie into a dance.
"Beyond this door is music, Come dance betwixt and between,"
I let out a soft oh as I was dipped and he held me there's for a moment a fond smile on his face, and eyes that I swore I recognized. He pulled me back up, holding me close before releasing me into a spin that landed me back next to Charlie who was looking at me in excited Awe.
"Beyond this waltz is a world without faults. But it must be believed to be seen" He finished shooting me a wink. "Beyond this door's a puzzle...
You'll find out what I mean. Beyond this gate is a world I create But it must be believed to be seen."
He motioned for us all to come forward and the winners made their way to surround him, all of us leaning forward eagerly.
"Despite the man seen at these doors My childhood home was bland like yours But I knew how to look to find A world that wasn't color-blind. Let's hope that you're a bit like me As you walk through my factory For in the end, there's quite a prize, If you can see with more than eyes" He said leading us all in a row, holding hands to the front gate.
"Your life's about to change now So don't get left behind Do things appear quite strange now Imagine the wonders you'll find Beyond this door is chocolate So tasty it's obscene! So follow me, for I guarantee, That this world I've conceived, and all I've achieved Must be believed to be seen!" He said, motioning for us all to enter the front doors that lead to nowhere after we handed him our tickets.
We all stood looking at each other confused before Wonka announced.
"Golden Ticket Winners: Gloop, Teavee, Beauregard, Salt, Buckets."
I heard him tap his cane and there's was a puff of air before we were all dropped down screaming.
"Do come in!"
