CHAPTER 5

BRIAR ACADEMY

The next day after the fête ended, a carriage is currently passing by the bustling market of Bonheur heading towards briar academy. Inside, Veronica and Lawrence were seated side by side; Veronica wore a short sleeved red dress with sakuras printed all over while Lawrence on the other hand wore a gray coat matched with an houndstooth patterned trousers. They both sat peacefully as they stare blankly at Richmond who is currently sitting in front of them.

When they arrived at the academy, Veronica went straight to her classroom while Richmond and Lawrence headed towards the headmaster's office.

They walked for quite a long time before they arrived at the furthest building in the academy; when they reached the end of the left wing, the two faced a huge mahogany door with gargoyle heads sticked all over it.

Richmond took a deep breath before knocking on the door, he was once an alumnus of briar academy and he knew that the headmaster has an eccentric temperament; he would always be willful and do everything he wanted without giving other people any considerations.

As soon as he finished knocking for the third time, the door opened automatically, as Richmond and Lawrence entered, they saw a fully bearded old man casting a spell to his tea set which made everything float in the air. The old man stared at the two that entered before snapping his fingers, in a matter of seconds, everything went back to normal.

"My, My, It's a great honor for this old one to have the Lansdrake head visit me today"

Richmond bowed as a greeting and Lawrence imitated him afterwards.

"You two go seat at the couch and make yourselves comfortable, what could this old bag of bones help you with?" when he finished speaking a couch suddenly appeared out of nowhere along with a table full of pastries and warm tea.

"I'd like to request headmaster to allow this child to enroll in the academy, the entrance examinations have long finished, but I felt like it's such a waste to let a child, like Lawrence, to be left behind for a year" Richmond said before grabbing the teacup offered to him midair.

"Hmmm... since this is a favor by you, I could consider it. But of course he still needs to pass the test"

"What headmaster says, this lowly one shall follow"

"No need to be formal with me Richmond" the old man then laughed hysterically. "I remember back in the day that you acted like such a delinquent and everyone thought you'd fail the succession as the head of your family, but look at you now" he then sighed, his face calm and content "You proved everyone wrong".

Richmond felt his face blush as he scratches his head, this was the first time the headmaster had praised him so openly so he slightly felt embarrassed.

The headmaster stared at Lawrence intently before gesturing to him to go near him; when Lawrence arrived to his side, he touched the palm of the young boy and after a couple of seconds, his old face turned stiff before slowly gaping from shock.

"You sure have picked a jewel this time Richmond" the headmaster said.

Everyone in the kingdom of Bonheur knew that this headmaster have lived for more than a hundred years, he was born with the affinity to control air but what sets him apart from the norm was his ability as a clairvoyant.

"What do you mean headmaster?"

"This boy... he will have a great future, it is a blessing to your family to have this child" the old man replied seriously.
