Chapter 10: The Brines are always your ally

CHAPTER 10

A few days has passed, Elliot and Katherine arrive at the border city of Bonheur, they'll be arriving at the kingdom in no time thus our perky redhead was internally jumping for joy just by imagining her reunion with her old friends.

Elliot was silently watching her grin from ear to ear and couldn't stop himself from chuckling at the sight of her excitement.

They booked an inn and right after settling down their luggage, Katherine immediately went out of her room. Coincidentally, Elliot just got out of his to order them a meal.

"Where are you heading off to?"

"Oh! Veronica's birthday just passed right? And I actually haven't prepared any gift for her"

Elliot walked by her side and gently ruffled her hair "You should've informed me, let's go buy a present together"

Katherine was hesitant to say what was on her mind but she still did after some contemplation "Aren't you tired from the journey? We haven't rested for 3 days"

Elliot felt a warmth gush out from his heart after hearing the girl's concern "If a woman like you is still full of energy after travelling that much, don't I fail as a man if I pass out before you?"

"...But"

Elliot pressed down Katherine's lips using his finger to hush her down "No more buts, let's go buy a present so we can rest early"

Katherine could only nod in agreement. Elliot was often obedient but there are still some times where he is as stubborn as a bull.

The two walked out of the inn and started roaming around the streets. They've passed by a few shops but none caught the interest of the young miss. Just as they passed by an old-looking jewelry store, Katherine abruptly stopped and gave the shop a second glance before deciding to go in.

Katherine walked straight to a glass sculpture of two maidens holding each other's hands. She looked at the shopkeeper "How much is this sculpture?"

"2,000 gold ingots" the shopkeeper said without even giving them a glance.

After hearing the price, Elliot's mouth twitched '2,000 GOLD INGOTS!? Isn't this a daylight robbery!? That amount could feed a normal family for 5 years!' he grabbed Katherine's arm before whispering in her ear "This is too expensive, let's go look at other shops"

Katherine stared at the sculpture for a long time before resolutely replying "But this is the perfect gift, look at the sculpture it looks exactly like me and Veronica"

Elliot carefully scrutinized the sculpture and couldn't help but gasp in surprise. 'The sculpture truly looked like a replica of Veronica and Kath!' "...How can this be?"

"Isn't it a beautiful coincidence?" she then walked to the counter while carefully carrying the glass sculpture. "I'll take this one". She placed a bag of gold in front of the shopkeeper which finally caught the man's attention.

"You sure have a keen eye, Young lady"

"Can you tell me who the sculptor of this piece was?"
