I reached forward, my hands grasping at his underarms to support his body weight. I lifted him upwards, toting him above my lap. He shot me a look of alarm when I gently set him down over my legs.
"What are you scared of?" I asked with concern, my eyesbrows crinkling downwards. His wide eyes silently told me that he was baffled by my sudden act of serenity.
He looked away almost instantly. "U-Uh.. I'm scared that you'll betray me. That you'll just.. discard me for someone or something else." he answered not only shyly, but honestly too.
"You're scared of being alone?" I must've confirmed his greatest fears, hence the gasp and stiffening of his body. He winced and let out a soft whine. He nodded his head and quickly leaned forward. Before I knew it, his arms were wrapped around me tightly and his nose was buried in my neck.
I felt my heart clench painfully inside my ribcage. I returned his embrace, squeezing his body to give him a sense of reassurance. "I won't ever leave you to be scared and alone." I murmured to him, my lips slightly brushing against his earlobe.
"Do you promise?"
"Yes, I promise."

Two Weeks LaterI sighed softly, filtering out the coffee beans in the coffee maker. Ugh... The smell was so strong and potent. I'm not much of a coffee drinker - but I like working with different kinds of baked goods. That's when I heard the Café door open with a melodic chime.
Harvey sauntered through the door, hips swaying only slightly and his curly hair grown down to his eyebrows. He's tamed it over two weeks for it to stay to the side. He wore a long-sleeved forest green shirt with light blue skinny jeans and his normal shoes.
Once his jovial eyes found me, he widened his proud stride and headed straight for me. "Ashton!" he called with a growing smile. I wonder why he's so happy today... Was it something at home? Maybe something that has to do with Audrie.
I instantly grinned, quick to abandon the coffee machine for someone else to handle. I dashed over to the counter and the small line of two cash registers by the side. As he approached the counter, I bounced in anticipation. Hurry up!
He placed his pale hands on the counter, limber fingers fanning out and his palms pressing firmly against the pearly surface. "Hey babe," I let a simper color my face when I used a pet name for him. He leaned over the counter and found myelf meeting him half-way.
Our lips met over the middle of the counter and open for everyone else to see. We heard a few female squeals from behind us and just from that, I'm pretty sure we attracted people's attention. As I pulled away from him, I felt his hands tugging me back to his lips.
"I got a promotion," he whispered as our lips parted for a second time. My eyes widened with joy and a gasp emanated from my sweet Harvey-kissed lips.
"You did?!" I whisper-yelled as he nodded. "That's great baby!" I cheered, kissing his cheek. He broke out into a bright grin as I celebrated his advancement in career.
"That promise you made two weeks ago really motivated me to work harder. I-I want to get over the problems I had with my mom. I want to believe what I want to believe." he told me, his voice low yet still audible. As the heartfelt speech spilled from his mouth, I could see a large smile curling his lips upwards.
"That's amazing... Where did you get all that confidence?" I asked, a smirk haunting my lips. That's when I earned a playful punch to the arm from my boyfriend. When our silly laughter died down, I felt a few taps on my shoulder. I turned to see a smug Kate.
"I knew you two had some chemistry going on." she smirked, placing one hand on her hip whilst the other rested on my shoulder. "I'm soooo ready for this." she told me with a wicked grin. My face screwed into a look of confusion as she moved to the inside bottom shelf of the counter.
She brought out her backpack - which was lathered with vibrant keychains, pins and stickers. She unzipped it and rustled things around inside of the bag. Then, she pulled out a plastic bag that was neatly tied at the top. On it was written, "For my babies -Kate"
"What's inside?" I asked her as she extended her arm out for me. I took the bag, feeling multiple objects inside of it. She just smirked and attended to some waiting customers at one of the cash registers. I turned to Harvey and watched him shrug.
I then threw the bag to Harvey, which he luckily caught. His eyes shot me a wary glance but soon enough he was untying the knot at the top of the bag. He peeked inside, rustling some things around with a gradually increasing blush on his face.
He flinched, quickly closing the bag. "Seriously!" he yelped, covering his face with his hands after he sat the bag down. Confused, I risked peeking in the mystery bag... Which I somewhat regret. Note how I said "somewhat."
There were two full packs of the "one size fits all" condoms and small tubes of clear ...lube, l'm assuming..? There was even a sex toy in there! What the Hell, Kate?!
"This is not café-friendly, Kate Smudgers!" I scolded, using her last name as if I were yelling at my child. I heard her guffaw quite loudly when she saw the fiery blush lingering on my cheeks.
"Well, you should've opened it at home you idiot!" she laughed, heading over to the glass case of donuts. She opened the small door and snapped on some rubber gloves. I just rolled my eyes and re-tied the cheap plastic bag.
"Can I take it out to your car? I don't want you leaving your customers alone." Harvey requested, nudging his head towards the short line of waiting customers. I nodded, handing him the bag and my car keys from under the counter.
"I'll be back!" he yelled, turning around and jogging to the entrance of the café. He's so cute...
