As the next day arrived, I made sure to bake some homemade macarons for Harvey since I told him that I would. I enjoy baking or cooking food, since it's somewhat of a stress reliever for me. My job is great for my cooking skill, don't you think?
My elderly grandmother taught me how to make Pizza Rolls and Mac n' Cheese when I was 11 years old. She wanted me to have her cook book that was filled with dust, yellowing papers, frayed edges and most importantly recipes to food.
That was eight years ago, so I don't remember where I placed that stupid book. It's been so long since I've even looked in that thing anyways. Now, we have the internet so really a cook book has no use these days, right?
I thought all of this whilst creating the chocolate filling for his treats. Obviously, I'll have to refridgerate them for at least 24 hours until they're eaten. They go bad quite quickly so in Lucky's Café, it's frustrating when the treats go bad. Good thing these are for Harvey, since I know he'll eat them the second he get his hands on them.
I found it cute how he had a bit of a sweet tooth. His mentality can be a bit similar to a 12-year-old's. I wonder how he is with studying? I've heard over one of our phone calls that he really liked studying but with that carefree and jittery attitude of his, it's hard to imagine him actually being serious for once.
I used orange non-liquid coloring paste and a bit of chocolate to use as the filling. He's told me that he's a sucker for chocolate so I wonder how he'll react when he sees these!
I snapped out of my trance and carefully wrapped the still-cooling maracons in a small towel. I then placed them in a small gift bag that had Harvey's name written on it with Sharpie marker. I straightened my work uniform, cleaned up the baking supplies and headed for the front door with my keys.
___
I arrived to my work quite early in a fit of exictement, so I didn't expect any other other evening workers to be here. Kate wasn't there and nor was Marti - another young woman who works amongst us. As expected, I didn't see Harvey either.
I stepped out of my silver car, my figure instantly washing over with heat as the sun shone over me. I locked the car and shut the driver door too. As I headed towards the café, I made sure as to not squish the treats that I'd recently baked. I was actually proud of my skills for once!
I sighed softly and entered the small building and as soon as I did, I was greeted by the soft chime of the bell above. There was an ample amount of customers in the shop so I scurried over to the counter and retrieved my apron and nametag from the back.
"Hey!" an unfamiliar voice called with joy. I quickly turned to see who it was and instead of Harvey, I found a young lady with long wavy brown hair. She must be an afternoon worker, ready to leave. She seemed like she was packing up to head home.
"Hey." I greeted, raising a hand slightly. She smiled brightly and opened the wooden door to leave the counterspace. I turned back to my nametag and opened the clip so I could attach it to my clothing. That's when I heard the small bell ring from behind me.
I peeked around my shoulder and found Harvey, looking around and scanning everyone present in the shop. Once his eyes landed on me, he gasped and dashed over to where I was. "Hi Ashton!" he belted, appearing extremely grateful to see me today.
"Hey, Harv. I got your sweets." I told him calmly, reaching down into my apron's pocket to pull out the same bag of baked treats. His eyes lit up as he gladly took them from my grip.
"Aww, th-thank you.." he simpered, grasping onto the bag tightly. His smile was so sweet and charming, it nearly lit my mood up as well. "I didn't really think you'd actually... You know.." he averted his gaze to the ground with a smile lingering on his lips.
"Of course I would, you idiot!" I laughed, swatting at the air playfully. He just giggled along with me. Wow... A man giggling? Now that's something someone doesn't hear every day. I swear, he's so... He's so feminine. I mean, I don't like thinking of him as female at all. I want to see him for who he is; which that would clearly be a male.
I think that's why I like him. He's an extremely cute boy and not to mention that his interests and personality are oddly congenial. His smile lightens my day and the way he laughs makes me want to laugh as well. He's just so contagious.
Wait.
I like him?
Surely as a friend, right?
Snapping me from my puzzling thoughts, I heard Harvey's concerned voice as it poked into my own private world. Huh. Only he can do that for some reason. He sounded a little worried, "Hey, are you okay?"
I turned to the brunette and nodded quickly. "Yeah sorry. I just zoned out, think of school n' whatnot." I slurred, my eyes falling from his and onto the floor. He just cleared his throat and exhaled deeply.
"School, huh... Maybe we could study at one of our places!" he suggested quite enthusiastically. With that kind of excitement, I doubt I'll ever be able to turn him down. It'll be too cruel to someone as pure as him.
Yeah, I like him. So what?
I've never been into girls so this is expected... I knew I'd fall for a guy eventually.
End Of Chapter 4
Sorry it's a little short! I'll make the other chapters a lot longer! The average amount of words per chapter is around 1,100 so I'll try to make it at least 1,500 instead. Well, if my imagination can stretch that far lol
