The Next Day

"Hey, um... Ashton? I'm really sorry about yesterday." Harvey apologized, holding his elbow with his other hand. He was doing a common gesture people use when they feel guilty, self-conscious or defensive. I found myself smiling at his shyness.

"It's okay. It's not like you could control it," I laughed softly, a smile curling my lips upwards. I leaned across the counter and ruffled his wavy hair with my hand. Even after my act of reassurance, he still wasn't satisfied with how easily I forgave him.

"I know, but, I still feel like I ruined everything." he turned his head, looking utterly defeated. I couldn't help but feel pity for him. He didn't do anything wrong - it was just a stupid phone call, after all!

"It's fine, baby." I finalized, lathering my statement with confidence. I reached over the marble counter and caressed his cheek. That's when he turned his gaze back to me. My lips held the same smile firmly, watching as he finally accepted the fact that he did nothing wrong.

   "Okay.."

"I don't get thiiis..." Harvey whined, throwing his head back and sighing. We were studying our 12th grade Algebra as a review. He was making a fuss about his algebraic formulas, since he couldn't figure the review problems out.

I laughed, "You should know this by now. We learned this in like, middle school." I leaned over and pointed at his paper on the light brown dining room table. I stated, "Circumference=πr^2 and πd."

   He scoffed. "I know that."

"Well stop complaining and do the work." I instructed, feeling like a proper teacher for him. He looked at me with confusion and rolled his eyes stubbornly. He's like an arrogant 13 year old when we're alone...

When I realized he wasn't going to move from the spot he was in, I sighed. He wasn't going to find the motivation to do this anytime soon, huh. "Oh come on. Do the first three problems and I'll let you make out with me." I offered, at which he perked up.

That's when he picked up his pencil and started kneading out his paper. I could practically see the cogs turning in his head as he worked out each and every Algebraic equation. I just sat back and smiled with triumph, having finished my paper already.

I watched as his pencil moved across the white paper, filling in margins and spaces between equations of imprinted text. I could see him writing down the number 23 but then he scribbled it out with frustration. As he moved from the first to the third problem, I could see that when he has a goal, he works with inspiration.

After three minutes or so, he dropped his pencil onto the wooden table and whooped happily. "I'm finished!" he cheered, pumping his fists in the air and leaning back in his cheap wooden seat. I grinned, uncrossing my arms from my chest.

"Now can I make out with you?" he asked eagerly.

"Did I say that? Hmm.. I lied." I teased, placing a finger on my chin as if I were thinking deeply about my choices. He gave me a "tch" and hopped off of his seat. He walked the short distance over to me, his eyebrows crinkled downwards.

"You better not have lied.." he muttered, his voice almost insecure as he slowly pressed his lips against mine. I gladly responded, kissing him back and raising my arms to wrap around his waist.

I breathed into his mouth as his soft tongue lapped over my lips. I smiled into the kiss, my mouth opening so that he could access it with ease. His tongue dipped into my mouth, instantly finding mine. Our tongues swirled along with one another, our breathing merging into one big puff of warm air.

"Shee? Sho you gidn't wie affer aw," Harvey muttered, his words deformed from our current makeout session. He groaned, pushing himself clsoer and placing a hand on the back of my head. I felt his nimble fingers play with my black hair as we kissed.

"Mm?" I hummed, acknowledging the facts that he said anything. That made him shiver and he soon pulled me off of my seat at the dining room table. As he kept our lips together, he moved me to the nearest wall and pressed his back against it. His hand tightly grasped mine as I sucked on his lower lip.

"Bubby, are you done studying?" Audrie's voice came from the top of the stairs, interrupting our moment. Seriously... That's the second time this week. I pulled away from him and watched as his eyes darted from place to place in panic.

"U-Uh, yeah, why?" he yelled, stammering on his first few words. I leaned forward and wrapped my arms around his waist, pulling him closer to mine. He threw a frantic glance to me as the stairs began to creak. Light footsteps were heard from the stairway yet my arms were still latched onto Harvey's figure.

"Can you help me with my homework?" Audrie asked as she came into both of our views. She stood at the bottom stair, seeming to pause her movements when she saw our position. She stood dumbfounded at the bottom of the wooden stairs as she waited for an answer.

   "Yeah sure--"

"D-Did I interrupt you?" she asked, a look of innoffensive surprise flashing over her pale face. Harvey, in response, flinched and gave me a glare that silently told me to let go. I slowly released his body from my grip and watched as he rearranged his clothing.

"No, of course not!" he yelped, waving his hands in the air hastily. I stood next to him, placing a hand on my hip. Whenever Audrie would pass me a look, I would smile happily to reassure her. She obviously didn't mean to disrupt us - it was just bad timing.

"Are you and Ash together?" she gasped, a look of terror bubbling up inside of her bright eyes as she dashed for her brother. "Bubby you can't date anyone, it's dangerous! Mama said so!" she brooded with fright, shooting me an extremely wary glance.

"I'm fine. Ashton swore to never touch me that way. He promised, sissy." Harvey consoled his fearful sister, kneeling down and holding her smaller hands in his. "He promised me." he repeated, staring softly into Audrie's perturbed eyes.

"Oh..." Audrie sighed, evidently avoiding my eyes. I just sighed softly with a smile pulling at my lips. I kneeled down along with the two siblings and placed a steady hand on Harvey's shoulder.

"...Sorry bubby.." she mumbled, shyly lowering her head. Chuckling, I craned my head to look at Harvey and pecked his cheek. Before he could tell her everything was fine, I stepped in on the conversation and told her something that she really needed to hear.

"I'll take good care of your brother."
