Deja Gaulden stood from her position and stood up straight, focusing her attention on the judge of the courtroom.
"Is it true that on the night of March 14th, you were in the house with Mr. Devontae Jones ?"
"Y-yes I was," Deja said in a quiet voice, barely anyone could hear her. The crowd leaned in, scooting to the edge of their seats.
"And is it true," The judge continued, "that you were the only one in the house with him."
The young girl lowered her head and nodded.
"I'm sorry, but can you speak up, please."
"Yeah It's true," Deja proceeded on to say, she felt bad, considering all of her family members were there. The room started to buzz with whispers.
"Order in my court," the judge demanded.
Ms. Williams, Devontae's attorney went up to the stand holding a piece of paper. "Can you please read what this says, Tia. Loud enough so that the people in the back may hear you."
Tia sat up, wiped a few tears from her red eyes and read what was on the paper from a text message that she texted her baby daddy kentrell, the day of the incident. "I will go over to his house to tell him the news." Tia read.
Ms. Williams nodded and took back the paper. "This note was found in Tia Johnson's Phone, on the day OF THE INCIDENT!. It is possible that Tia went over to Devontae's house with the intentions on stabbing him and Ms.Deja Gaulden."
Deja nodded from her position, this time she was smiling. .
"Are you mentally ill, Do you have some type of condition that we don't know about?" Ms. Williams asked.
"Objection!" Tiffany, Tia's mother proclaimed standing up from her seat next to Tamia. " What the fuck does this have to do with the fucking case!?"
" ORDER!" The judge demanded.
"Oh i'm sorry your honor, But what relevance does this really have to the case?" Tiffany asked.
"Agreed," the judge said. "Ms. Williams, are you badgering the girl in order to confuse her?"
Williams blinked her eyes innocently. "No, your Honor, I would never."
"Then, Have a seat!."
Ms. Williams smiled as she walked back over to her desk.
" It is time." The judge said this statement with finality. "I will now pass sentence of the verdict. I agree with the jury on the verdict of not guilty, and hereby sentence Tia Johnson to 2 years of parole."
" Oh fuck no mane!" Devontae yelled.
" ORDER!" The judge shouted.
" This bitch tried to kill me and now yall lettin ha go, Nawl mane. Hell Nawl!" Devontae yelled from his seat. Security came rushing over to him, to calm him down. They placed hands on him to make him sit down but he was too strong.
" Mane that hoe deserve life." He yelled trying to break away from the security. Kentrell started to tense up in his seat, in the crowd.
He didn't appreciate Devontae calling Tia out of her name.
" Get him out of here!" The Judge demanded.
Devontae tried to break away as the security dragged him out of the courtroom, which resulted him into punching one of the men in the face.
Tia smiled as she stood up in front of the judge, she knew he was gonna get jail time for punching the security.
Once they were finished getting Devontae out of the courtroom, The judge proceeded on.
" What does that parole consist of your honor?" Tia asked.
" A bail of 50,000 dollars, You are to maintain employment and a residence of your own. You are to avoid all criminal activity and contact with any victims, Except for your first Child's father, Kentrell Gaulden. You are not to leave a specified geographic area without permission from the parole officer."
The crowd cheered and stood up from their seats.
The sheriff put handcuffs on Tia and took her away. Being that Tia was already 8 months pregnant , that meant she would be lucky to have her baby out of the prison cells that she spent 5 months in.
When the judge left his bench and the trial was over.
Kentrell paid the Bail and sent Tia on her way. She was free.
Tia Aaliyah Johnson
I wobbled out the gates of the prison and there waiting for me was Tamia and Kennedy, my parents and Kaliyah and Kentrell.
" Ouu Hey big mama!" Kennedy greeted causing me to smile for the first time in forever.
" Mama!" Kaliyah shouted running over to me. She was walking good now, considering she had just turned 2.
" Hey my big girl" I smiled, kneeling down to hug her.
" You big" She chuckled.
" Girl I know" I sniffled, wiping the tears that had escaped from my eyes.
I stood up and went over to hug the both of my parents. Then I went to hug Tamia.
" It was hella boring without you. I missed you." Tamia mumbled in between hugs.
" Damn." I said surprisedly, stepping back.
" What?" She asked.
" Never heard you admit that...Li' nappy head ass" i joked, hugging her again. She laughed and hugged me tighter.
Then finally I went to hug Kentrell. However I ended up being an emotional wreck.
" Thank you." I thanked.
" For what?" He mumbled.
" For being here....Thank you" I sniffled, wiping the tears that escaped my eyes.
He shook his head and pulled me closer to him. " Don't thank me." He mumbled once again.
" I told you I was gon' be hea fa you." He added.
