First they will become distant.

{LEVY'S POV}
When Gajeel told me he never wanted to see me again, my heart broke. But now that I think about it, he and Natsu weren't acting normal, and neither was Laxus according to Mira. All the dragon slayers weirding out at once? That's too strange to be a coincidence. Which means this is a mystery we have to solve if we want our dragon slayers back.

If it was a sickness or mutated disease of some sort that only effects dragon slayers, there's a good chance Wendy would be acting the same way. But she insists she feels fine, and hasn't flipped out yet. Since the symptoms struck relatively the same time for two of the boys, there's a low chance that Wendy is a part of this. We're being careful though.

Perhaps it only affects boys, like some massive guy period. We can't really do anything about that. However, something like this has probably happened before, and someone must've recorded something. Which means our best option for finding a cure is in the library.

Yet Lu-chan, Wendy, and I have been reading for hours, and nothing has even mentioned the symptoms our dragon slayers are showing.

"I've got something!" Lu-chan holds up a creepy looking book triumphantly. There's no title on it, and the cover has a bunch of black scales surrounding a blood red eye. The scales also form spikes, and Lu-chan has a small cut on one of her fingers from cutting it, so they must be sharp. The eye blinks, and I screech. Lu-chan drops the book quickly. It falls open to a page with writing in a fancy script.

"First, they will become distant. You'll know what I mean soon enough." I read. Sounds ominous. In any case, the dragon slayers did push us all away. This seems like the right book. I blush a little when I scan over phases four and five. Wow.

"Where are you reading from? There's nothing written in that book and there never has been." Wendy frowns at us.

"What are you talking about?" We hold the book up to her, avoiding the eye.

"I found that book on a job a while back. The entire thing's blank." Wendy informs us. Lu-chan and I glance at each other.

"We both see words, right Levy-chan?" Lu-chan asks me. I nod. We all look around confused.

"Only certain people can read what's in that book." A male voice suddenly breaks the silence. I grab it.

"Who are you? Why couldn't I smell you?" Wendy glares at man and woman sitting high up on one of the shelves of the bookcases. He has black hair and green eyes, while the lady has white blonde hair and wide ice blue eyes.

She clings to his arm like Juvia, and stares at us suspiciously. We all take battle positions, but the man raises his hands in the universal sign of surrender. Or rather, a hand. The woman refuses to let go of one of them.

"I am the author of the book Miss Levy McGarden is holding." He points to the book in my hands. "My name is Emery. This is my mate Misaki, the ice dragon slayer." He then gestures to the blonde, who blushes and squeezes his arm happily. They look so cute together.

"What?" Defensiveness is replaced by surprise on Wendy's face.

"Do you know what's going on with Gajeel?" I ask.

"And Natsu, and Laxus." Emery confirms. They jump from their perch, landing easily on their feet in front of us.

"Your mates are going through dragon mating season." Misaki's voice is singsong and high like a bird. It's so pretty. She keeps herself between us and Emery, who seems annoyed.

"They're confused right now Misaki. They aren't going to hurt me." Emery pats her hand on his arm reassuringly, then turns to us. "Allow me to explain. Every year, there's a period of time when dragon slayers who have come of age find a mate. This is known as mating season. Even after they find their mate, they feel the effects of the season. Misaki isn't usually this clingy."

"Hey!" Misaki pouts. He smirks at her.

"What does that have to do with us?" Lu-chan asks.

"I put a spell on that book when I wrote it. Only the mate of a dragon slayer can see the words. Which means that you are the mates of..." He trails off.

"Natsu Dragneel and Gajeel Redfox." Misaki speaks up. "They reek of them." She wrinkles her nose. Lu-chan and I casually sniff our clothes.

"Phase one should be ending soon. The dragon slayers will be back, so we should tell the rest of your guildmates what's going on." Emery smiles at us. I read about phase two.

This is going to be fun.
