Chapter 5- Keep Quiet...Or Die

I untied both of the boys, but stayed very close to the exit. Just because they were going to tell us why they tried killing me, didn’t mean I still trusted them. Aaron’s door had three locks on them, so I locked all of them. The one on the very top was the one I paid most attention to because that was the lock you couldn’t open from the outside.

“Hey, Christine? Should I lock the top one or not? People might think we’re holding someone hostage in a house,” I said, looking at Christine.

She turned to look at me, keeping a hand on Asher’s shoulder. “Apps, we are keeping people hostage in a house. But, don’t lock it. We could probably stop them if they tried to run,” she smiled.

Then, I turned back towards the door, and unlocked the lock on the very top. Part of me wanted to keep it locked, but the other part thought we’d be in danger if we did keep it locked. “You better be sure about this,” I hissed.

“I am. Even if I wasn’t sure, I’d still tell you to do it,” Christine laughed.

My eyes focused on Aaron, who was whispering something into Asher’s ear. I walked away from the door and worked my way behind the two boys. They both had their cell phones behind their backs. I couldn’t remember if I had taken them away from them before and they found it, or I’m stupid enough not to take their phones away.

I slapped Aaron’s wrist, and Asher’s at the same time. They both jumped in surprise and dropped their phones. Idiots, I thought. I didn’t remember them being this scared. Once, when I tried sneaking up on them while they were watching basketball, they didn’t even get scared.

Now? It was probably different. I’m dead now, and they’re the ones that killed me. They should be scared! Next, I looked back at the phones. But, Christine caught my eye.

“Take the phones with you,” Christine started, “We could use them.”

I nodded, and put both cell phones into my pockets. Christine and I pulled up chairs in front of Asher and Aaron, which made them move back a bit. Sometimes I wonder if the reason he killed me is all that bad. He always told me he loved me, but why did he kill me?

The paper I set out was on my lap, or as the boys could see it…on the chair. I grabbed a pen and scribbled the word Go on there. Asher and Aaron both looked at each other, and swallowed hard. Then, Asher gestured toward Aaron.

Aaron looked at the chair I was sitting in, and said, “I don’t get why you’re making such a big deal about this. Aren’t you in heaven anyways? You’ve been nothing but good.”

You idiot. If I was in heaven I wouldn’t be here talking to you. This was true actually. If I was in heaven, maybe I would have let this pass me by. But since I’m in hell, there was no exception.

He looked a bit shocked from what I could tell, but then his expression looked happy. That jerk… “You didn’t actually commit suicide, Apps. You were murdered…for something you did.”

Ha. Try explaining that to Satin. If you going to murder me, you could’ve have used a gun instead of rope. Are you that broke? And what did I do? Aaron was one of the most poorest guys I knew, which is very ironic because his parents are millionaires. From what I remember, his parents gave him one hundred dollars as allowance, but he finished it in one day.

He looked at Asher. “I wasn’t broke. I just wanted to…experiment. I wanted to see where you’d go even if it wasn’t you who actually committed the suicide.”

“I was part of that experiment. Aaron told his friends and I what you had done. Honestly, I thought it was nothing because I wouldn’t have minded. But, Aaron thought it was stupid and wanted to break up with you, but that would ruin his reputation. So then…yeah. He thought of this,” Asher said.

Aaron’s eyes suddenly widened. “You what?! You wouldn’t have minded?! Try having a girlfriend like that! See if it won’t drive you crazy!”

“The heck Aaron! You don’t even deserve her! I mean, what have you ever done that was actually good?! I didn’t even want to kill her, but you forced me! You had something on me! Now, looking back…it wouldn’t have even mattered!” Asher hissed.

All of a sudden, Aaron rose up out of his chair and connected his fist with Asher’s face. The only thing I was thinking about was about what Asher had said. He wouldn’t mind what? What drove Aaron crazy? This was the only thing I was thinking about.

I didn’t even notice Christine. She was trying to pry them off of each other, but to her dismay…it wasn’t working. Aaron and Asher were punching each other in the face and screaming loudly, so I thought that the neighbors could hear.

Then, I checked outside. I was right. The neighbors were looking directly at the window which was wide open. I quickly shut the blinds, and ran over to Christine. It took about two minutes to pry her off of them, but I still managed to do it.

“Chris, the people are staring. I think they might call the cops or something,” I said.

She closed her eyes, as if hearing it was bad enough than seeing it. “I don’t know what to do, April. I’m sorry.”

“Um…” I walked around in a circle, trying to think of an answer. “Just get them off of each other!”

I got hold of Aaron shirt and started pulling. Christine did the same to Asher. But when I thought that Aaron’s shirt might rip off, I let go of it. Once I let go of it, Aaron bumped his head against Asher’s head, making both of them lay on the ground.

Christine nudged me. “What did you just do?! The fabric was strong so it wouldn’t have came off if that’s what you were thinking!”

I smiled nervously, but didn’t reply. I ran over to the window and peeked outside. There were police cars parked all around. Really?! How can simple fight bring in the cops? I thought.

“Chris! The cops are here!” I said, running over to the boys.

Both of their eyes were closed, so I assumed they were incautious. I didn’t really get why I was so worried. When the cops came inside, all they’d see is two boys lying on the ground. They wouldn’t see Christine and I because we’re already dead.

All of a sudden, the door busted open. The cops. Christine and I froze, then stared at the boys as they began earning back cautiousness. I sighed of relief. At least we didn’t kill them, right? The two boys stood up like nothing happened and walked over to the police.

“We are very sorry. We just…had a misunderstanding,” Aaron said calmly.

Asher smiled a genuine smile. “Yes sir. That’s what happened.”

Then, Asher glared at Aaron. He was probably mad that Aaron had set fire on him like that. I would be mad too if someone did that to me. Asher was just saying his thoughts, right?

“Well boys, you still need to get locked up for what you’ve done. Most of the furniture is destroyed because of your misunderstanding. I hope you both understand,” one of the officers spoke.

Both of them smirked and said, “Yes we understand.”

The cops took the two boys into a police car, and drove off. Christine and I sat in the living room where they had fought. I didn’t understand this…and I bet neither did Christine.

“This isn’t real…We were supposed to find out why they killed me,” I said, disappointed.

Christine’s expression was the same as mine. An expression you make when you can’t believe something. “We found out some of the reason, though. That should be a good start. Now all we have to do is find out the rest.”

“Yeah, you’re probably right. We did start off good, but what I don’t get it why the day ended like this,” I replied.

She tilted her head to the side. “Like what?”

“Like…” I started.

Christine looked down. “Like…they planned this all. Like…they planned to give us little clues one by one. Or how they wanted to get arrested…So we have no way of contacting them.”

I nodded. “Exactly…”
