Chapter 3- Secrets from the Living
"Each night I wait for you...Thinking about one question. Why'd you kill me?"
I fell from the sky and saw Aaron once more. He took a step toward me, but I moved back a bit. Even until now, I didn’t know if I could actually trust him. Aaron kept mouthing words that made no sense to me.
“What? Can you be more clear?” I tried asking. But, he just shook his head with frustration.
“I’m sorry,” Aaron yelled.
Then, I stepped backwards a bit more, but stopped halfway. I was on the edge of a huge cliff…but how? When I turned my head downwards, I saw nothing down below. This all seemed fake to me.
“Where am I?” I scolded him.
He just shrugged and looked around. “How am I suppose to know?”
“You’re the one who brought me to this peculiar place, and your telling me you don’t know where we are?”
“How about you just wake up?”
Aaron’s words tangled in my chest. Wake up? What do you mean wake up? In a split second, my eyes opened quickly and the scenery of hell was showing.

“A dream!” I yelled.
I quickly sat up to see Christine sitting in front of me cross legged. When I looked around, it was hell. I still wondered why the dream seemed so real…like I could feel it in my soul.
Christine tilted her head in one direction. “You okay? What’s up with the constant yelling of random things?”
My heart sank. “Bad dream…again. Aaron tried apologizing for killing me.”
“Psh…Aaron? That jerk of a guy? That is so a dream,” she laughed.
I rolled my eyes at her. Couldn’t she give me answers I really wanted? She’s an angel anyways…isn’t that what she’s suppose to do? My heart began pumping really fast, then my hands felt like fire. I took my hands off of the floor, and jumped to my feet. Then, when I looked at the ground, nothing was there.
Christine pointed curiously at the wall behind me, gesturing for me to look at it. I didn’t want to, but she started pushing my shoulder until I turned around. The wall had something scrolled on it in blood…a scary feature that gave me the shivers. It read-
Day 1-Don’t Waste It
My eyes drifted hopelessly from the wall to Christine, searching for an explanation. “What’s that?”
“April…It’s the sign. We need to start looking for the clues so we can go to heaven.” Her eyes never left the wall, but then she stared at me. “Let’s move.”
“Where to? I mean…first,” I said.
Christine pointed upwards and smiled. “Him.”

We went to a park that was nearby the school I used to go to…before I died. Christine led me into this skate park closer to the end of the park. No matter how many times I tried to step back, she kept shoving me forward. I wondered if he could see me, even if I stood right in front of him. Christine pushed me toward Aaron. I nearly hit him by one more step, and was surprised he didn’t flinch. Better yet…look at me.
“Hey,” I said. My first thought was to test if he could hear me.
Aaron just kept looking at the people skateboarding. How could I ever get this guy’s attention? Then it hit me, I looked around for any paper, and went through this lady’s purse. If I was still alive, I would know better not to do such a thing like that. But, you know what they say? Desperate calls, call for desperate measures.
I scribbled the words Aaron! It’s me you jerk. -April on the paper. Then, I crumpled it up and threw it at his face. He made a look that seemed both scared, and confused.
Aaron picked up the paper and read it. Well, I didn’t actually see him read it…his eyes just grew really wide. “What the…,” he whispered.
His eyes shifted from left to right. Then, I flicked him on the neck to see if he’d listen. Aaron just rubbed the spot nervously. Wow.
“Christine?” I turned around to her. She was laughing like she was enjoying the whole thing.
Christine smiled shyly and said, “Yeah?”
“You’re an angel right? If you are…help me? Please? Before I seriously kill this guy,” I laughed.
Her smile widened. Was she waiting for me to say that? “Alright, I’ll help you.”
She grabbed a skateboard that was lying around, and led it somewhere. Surprisingly, Aaron followed it. I was wondering if she was going to knock him unconscious with the skateboard, but I knew she wasn’t.
“April? Your alive?” Aaron’s voice changed.
I jumped in surprise but said nothing. Even if I did, he wouldn’t be able to hear anything I’m saying to him. What’s the point? But, I got an even better idea. Well, Christine had the better idea.
Christine gestured toward the skateboard, and I nodded. I’d just use the skateboard to answer his questions. “Thanks.” I shook the skateboard to the side.
Aaron sat down near the bench. “So…your dead then?” I made the skateboard move up and down.
“Are you in heaven?” The skateboard turned to the side.
“Hell?” I nodded…well the skateboard did. “Why are you here? To get to heaven?” The skateboard nodded again.
Aaron let out a laugh. “Oh…so you want me to tell you why I killed you?”
I rolled my eyes in a no-duh kind of way, and made the skateboard say yes. “Stupid…”
“Your going to have to try harder than that, Apps.”
