(//_^)
I woke up feeling hot again. This place wouldn’t be a problem to live in during winter will it? I thought. Then, I looked around for Christine. She was awake already, but was staring up at something.
I walked up to her and smiled. “What are you staring at so intently?” But, I realized that she was staring up, thinking about heaven. I took a seat by her, and patted her head. “Don’t worry. I told you I’ll help you get back up there.”
Christine smiled sweetly at me, but then looked back up at the sky. “That’s not what I’m worried about though.” She took a deep breath. “It’s my brother I’m worried about. He died a few days ago, and his name is Angel. His personality completely complemented his name. I told him that I would be in heaven with him when he died, but I’m not as you can see.”
I tried to process what she said. Then I nodded. I understood how she must feel if she can’t meet someone she love’s needs. That’s how I felt about my best friends. I didn’t even think they knew I died…I don’t even think they know now.
But, while I was thinking, this voice interrupted my thoughts. “Such a sweet moment you two! But break it up before I do. Don’t think that getting out of here will be that easy. Especially when you have us around.”
Christine rose up. “You know what, Marsha? You aren’t anything special. Maybe you are to Jenna, but not to me. I know that your really nice, but it just doesn’t show. I’m starting to think…Satan is more nicer than you.”
Marsha gasped, but shook it off like it was nothing. “You have nothing on me. Anyways, that’s your opinion. It’s not like that’s going to change anything, now is it?” She smirked.
I stared at Jenna. She wasn’t responding at all. The first conversation I had with her, she talked all the way, and even smiled. But now…nothing. What’s her problem? I thought.
Jenna noticed I was looking at her, but didn’t do anything. Instead, she just stared at me with a blank expression on her face which I couldn’t read. But then, I glanced at Marsha and Christine who were still fighting.
“Do you guys have a problem or something?” I asked. Christine wasn’t like this normally. She was usually happy, nice, and calm. This time she was…different. Christine went full blow on Marsha like something happened before I arrived. Their past, maybe? I didn’t know.
Both of them stopped talking and looked at me. “Nothing that you should worry about,” they said simultaneously.
I made a confused look at Marsha. “Why shouldn’t I worry about it? Didn’t you say I wouldn’t get out of here that easily? So, wouldn’t I be here a while? Shouldn’t I know what’s going on?”
Marsha didn’t answer. I assumed she must be thinking of something to get me all worked up. But then she opened her mouth and said, “I admit you do. But, if your going to ask a question like that…ask Christine. She knows.”
Then Jenna spoke up, finally. “Yeah…what she said.” The way she said it made me think that she had no emotions what so ever. What had really happen to her? I thought.
“Are you okay, Jenna? You seem like something’s bothering you,” I said. For some reason, I felt like I wasn’t suppose to ask that question because Marsha and Christine both stared at me like they hadn’t noticed.
But, Jenna looked up. She glanced at Marsha who looked back at her. “Um…n--nothing.” Her voice seemed shaky. That’s unusual.
I didn’t want to ask why her voice was shaky, so I just let it go. “Okay. Good to know.”
Marsha kept looking at Jenna. But, she eventually looked at me. “Why do you care if something’s wrong with Jenna? She’s my best friend and she’s my responsibility. Not yours.” Her voice came out fierce like fire burning you. Then again, I’m living in a place with fire.
Thinking of an answer to her question, nothing came up. Instead, Christine answered for me. “You should take more care of her, Marsha. Next thing you know…you might lose her as well.”
As well? What do you mean she might lose her as well? What else did she lose before? I thought.
Marsha rolled her eyes, and walked away. It took Jenna about a minute until she followed Marsha. She seemed like something was making a space out…a lot. But like Marsha said…that’s none of my concern.
My concern was Christine, and her brother. But, now I had another concern for her which was…Marsha. I decided to let my concern of her and Marsha let go first. “What happened to you and Marsha? Why did you suddenly go all furious on her like a tiger?”
Christine made a shocked look like she didn’t think I’d ask. “I can’t tell you. But, I can tell you that I went all furious on her because of the past.”
“If you can’t tell me…why am I supposed to help you with your brother and getting to heaven? I can’t help someone who won’t even tell me the past, you know,” I replied.
She sighed. “Well, if you include my brother in this and me going to heaven…I’m torn to telling you.” She took a deep breath. “When I was in grade school, Marsha and I were best friends. We never fought or anything and we did everything together. But…”
I was shocked to find out that they were actually friends. But, I needed to know more. “But? But what?”
Christine continued. “But, one day it was the science fair. I beat her for 1st place, and she eventually ended up getting 2nd. We were happy for each other of course. But, she wasn’t. Marsha was the jealous type back then, and still is now.”
I couldn’t help but laugh at the thought, but I stopped because I knew it was wrong. “Why just because of a science fair? There’s still next year, and isn’t the point of a science fair to show your knowledge and let people admire your work?”
She nodded. “But, Marsha wasn’t like that. She wanted everything at her hands when she wanted it,” she smirked, “ like a princess. A spoiled one too. But, to her, anything that had prizes deserved competition and striving for the best.”
I smiled. “I would think the same. Is that why you guys weren’t friends anymore? Just because you kept beating her in everything?”
Christine sighed of sadness. “Yeah…that’s exactly why.” She glanced over to where Jenna and Marsha stood. “I still want to be her friend, but she has Jenna now.”
“Don’t worry, Christine. Jenna isn’t as good as you. Plus…they don’t even look happy together.” I put a hand on her shoulder. “You have me now…I won’t leave you until we both go to heaven.”
“Promise?” She smiled widely.
I laughed. “Promise!”
So with that…the Christine I first met had come back. She started jumping, but I told her to stop because people were staring. If Marsha, and Jenna were mean…I’m afraid to see how mean the others are.
I couldn’t help, but stare at Marsha and Jenna. Marsha kept shaking Jenna’s shoulders for some reason. Jenna kept looking away from her…no emotions again. Marsha must’ve done something to Jenna, and I needed to find out what. I know that Jenna was mean to me to…but I couldn’t stand seeing her like this. It’s not like her, I thought.
Christine stepped in front of me. “You don’t have to worry about them.” She jumped and pointed. “You got me now!”
“Your so happy!” I laughed. How can you be so happy? Yet…you hold many problems, I thought.
This place has tons, and tons of problems. How can I solve at least one of them without finding anyone hurt? One problem leads after the other in hell. I wonder how many problems happen in heaven. I want to go to heaven with Christine…maybe Marsha too if they actually start getting along like old times.
