Jim and Khan's signals were displayed on the view screen of the bridge as well as a map of the scanned debris between them and Admiral Marcus' ship.

"Sir, Kirk is heading for collision at four-three-two!" Ensign Reeves alerted.

"Captain, there is debris directly ahead," Spock relayed.

"Copy that," Jim replied.

Sala was watching one of the closer data monitors, which was keeping track of Jim's course, with McCoy looking over her shoulder.

"Captain! You're extremely off course," Sala scolded.

"I know, I know! I can see that," Jim returned.

"Use your display compass, Captain," Sulu pressed.

"You must correct precisely thirty-seven-point-two-four-three degrees," Sala supplied.

"Got it," Jim noted, "I'm working my way back," Jim paused, "Scotty, you're gonna be ready with that door, right?"

There was no response from Mister Scott.

"Mister Scott, where are you?" Jim asked.

"Captain, he can't seem to hear you," Uhura informed Jim, "I'm working on getting his signal back. Stand by."

"Damn it," Jim muttered.

"Captain, what is it?" Spock asked.

"My helmet was hit. Uhura, tell me you have Mister Scott back."

"Not yet. I'm still working on a signal," Uhura answered, "His communicator is working. I don't know why he isn't responding."

"Imminent collision detected!" Sulu alerted.

"Khan, use evasive action!" Spock relayed, "There is debris directly ahead."

"I see it," Khan acknowledged.

It was only a few moments before Khan's signal was lost.

"Mister Sulu, did we lose Khan?" Spock asked.

"I don't know, Commander. I'm having trouble tracking him in all this debris," Sulu answered as he worked with his console.

"Was Khan hit?" Jim asked.

"We're trying to find him now," Spock said in a calm voice.

Despite her calm demeanor, Sala could tell that her pulse was slightly elevated from normal. Be it from the fact her Captain's life was at risk or otherwise, she could not pin at that point in time.

"Captain, you need to adjust your target destination to one-eight-three by four-seven-three degrees," Sala reported.

Voices were quiet for a moment as Jim continued to work his way through the debris field.

"Spock, my display's dead," Jim said in a calm voice, "I'm flying blind."

"Captain, without your display compass, hitting your target destination is mathematically impossible," Spock said in a slightly rushed voice.

"Spock, if I get back, we really need to talk about your bedside manner."

"When you get back, Captain," Sala said, reminding Jim of the promise that he had made to her not long before.

"Commander, he's not gonna make it," Sulu said, turning to look behind himself at Sala and Spock.

Once the words had left Sulu's mouth, Khan's signal blinked back onto the view screen.
