"Activate the cryogenic sequence," McCoy said as they put Jim into the cryo tube.

McCoy had tasked Sala with continuing to try and get hold of Spock while McCoy and the other medical officers worked with the cryo tube and the member of Khan's crew.

"Spock isn't responding," Sala said before making a page to the bridge, "Sala to bridge. We can't reach Spock."

McCoy moved over to where Sala was calling the bridge, "I need Khan alive. You get that son of a bitch back on board right now! I think he can save Kirk."

"Can we beam them up to the ship?" Sulu asked as the bridge kept the channel open.

"Zey keep moving! I can't get a lock on eizer of zem," Chekov griped.

"Can you beam someone down?" Sala asked, her mind working quicker than she thought possible.

"Yes, we can do zat."

"Send the coordinates to transport. I'll be there shortly," Sala said before getting up and running out of the med bay.

Sala ran to the transporter room, grabbing an excursion belt as she did.

"Coordinates confirmed," Lieutenant Commander Braves said as Sala ran into the transporter room.

Sala prepped her phaser to stun and took stance on the transport pad. She then gave a quick nod to Lieutenant Commander Braves before her body began to glow a bluish white.

The female Vulcan then found herself atop a moving vehicle in some city; which, she did not know.

Quickly looking around, Sala found the two men she was looking for to her right. She fired her phaser at Khan, but it took two blasts before Khan got off of Spock.

On the third blast, Khan was staggering towards Sala. The fourth, he was pushed back slightly but continued towards Sala.

Sala fired a fifth time, Khan almost having her within his reach. She fired a sixth time before Spock grabbed Khan's shoulder.

Spock then struck Khan across the head with a metal object. He then turned Khan and moved to break his arm over his shoulder.

"Spock!" Sala yelled as the male Vulcan continued to beat the other man.

Spock knocked Khan onto his back on the vehicle. He then climbed on top of him and started to repeatedly punch Khan's head and face.

"Spock!" Sala yelled, crouching down to be eye level with Spock, "Spock, stop! Stop! He's our only chance to save Jim!"

At this, Spock stopped punching Khan and looked at Sala. He seemed to be processing what the female had said as he looked between her and Khan.  Spock then gave Khan a solid uppercut punch, knocking him out.

Sala pulled her communicator out from the belt she was wearing.

"Enterprise, beam us up. Get security to the transport room," Sala said, raising her voice over the rushing wind.

"Aye," Chekov responded.

It was only moments later when the bodies of Sala, Spock, and Khan started to glow with a pale blue, almost white, light.

Sala was sat in a chair that she had pulled to sit beside Jim's bed.

The first two nights Jim was in the hospital, Sala had tried sleeping at her own apartment. But she couldn't get more than an hour or two of sleep at a time. She tried spending a night in Jim's apartment, as she knew where he kept a spare key, but the result was only maybe an hour more of sleep overall.

After that night, Sala simply stayed in Jim's hospital room through the night. She seemed to be able to sleep longer that night, but it wasn't very restful since she was sleeping in a chair.

Having gotten more sleep after spending a night in Jim's hospital room, Sala thought she would be able to get rest at her apartment again.

This, however, did not happen for the female Vulcan.

Fits of sleep lasting only an hour or two persisted that night, leading Sala to the conclusion that she wasn't going to be able to rest soundly without knowing that Jim was okay. She had fallen asleep to the beeping of Jim's heart monitor the night before, so she had the constant reassurance that he was alive; just not conscious.

So for the past week, Sala had spent most of her time inside Jim's hospital room. The only things to punctuate the passing of time were monitors in Jim's room.

Spock had stopped by every day to check on his friends. He started to bring Sala small meals, to make sure that she was eating. He would also encourage her to return to her apartment every other day or so in order to take care of herself.

Yesterday was one of the days he was able to convince her to leave the room for a while.

Of course, McCoy was in the room every day, several times a day, to check on Jim. But he would also talk to Sala; tell her of any improvements Jim had made, how other crew members were doing, things to try and keep her in better spirits.

At this point, it was mid-morning.

Sala would cast glances out the window of Jim's room, and cast glances at Jim. She rolled her Vokaya amulet in the fingers of her left hand absentmindedly.

There was a soft knock at the door before it opened, revealing Spock.

"Hello, Sala," Spock said as he entered the room.

"Hello, Spock," Sala said, giving her childhood friend a soft nod.

"Has there been any improvement in the Captain's condition?"

"Not drastically. His brain activity is up a bit more, which suggests he may be waking soon."

Spock paused for a moment, "Have you eaten yet today, Sala?"

"No, I have not."

"Why don't you go and get something to eat, then? I will keep watch of the Captain while you are gone."

Sala's eyes lingered on Jim for a few moments before drawing a deep breath. The young woman then stood up from her seat, giving a small stretch. She then started to leave the room.

"Thank you, Spock," Sala said in a soft voice as she passed the male Vulcan on her way out.
