Chapter 13 - Joey Lives

Joey's POV

Last thing I remember,  I was driving home from the store, then everything went black. I don't remember a thing after that.

I think my life flashed before my eyes. I saw me as a little kid again, then I saw when I met Daniel, when we adopted Kayla.

I tried to scream for them but nothing came out. Then I saw a funeral, with my body in the cascet. I saw Daniel and Kayla crying as they lowered the cascet into the ground.

That's when I jolted awake, but when I tried to sit up I couldn't even move. I felt like I had a cast on my full body.

"Where a-am i?" I say weakly. I hear Daniel's voice as he responds "J-joey? Your awake!" I feel a bit of pressure as someone suddenly hugs me tight "oof" I say with a little pain in my voice.

"Sorry joey" I hear Kayla say."I'm just glad your ok" I then feel her start sobbing as she starts crying.

"I'm fine Kayla." I say as she stops hugging me and I feel a hand grab mine. It was Daniel's. He leans down to give me a gentle hug. I hear him wisper "this is my fault."

I look at him through the eye wholes and say as sternly as i can " No its not Daniel. Don't ever say that again because it wasn't your fault."

A Month Later

As the nurse wheeled me out the front door of the hospital I see Daniel and Kayla standing by the car. When kayla sees me, she ran to me and gave me a bear hug. I giggle as she continues to hug me. " I've missed you too Kayla."

She wheels me the rest of the way to the car. And Daniel helps me into the car. He hands me the seat belt so I can fasten it. Then we were off back to the house.

Daniel looks over at me then back at Kayla in the rearview mirror. "So kayla you want to tell him or you want me to? She looks at me and smile Tell me what?" I ask and she smiles when she says "I started school last week!" I beamed as i say "OMG! That's amazing! Have you made any friends?"

She looks at me as her eyes have a glaze of sadness. "No, they were making fun of me because I was adopted." She looks at me then at Daniel. Daniel looks at her through the mirror. " Kayla why didn't you tell me?" I look as kayla as she  shruggs.

Back Home

Kayla helps me walk into the house. Then me and Daniel exange a look and it's like we agree with a look that we need to talk to kayla.
"Kayla we need to talk." I say as i pat the seat next to me. She sits and looks at me and Daniel.

"Kayla there will be bullies at school and in the real world." I say "trust me I should know." Daniel nods "Kayla  looks at us. "Just ignore them" Daniel says. Kayla nods as she says "ok".
