He slowely walked to the living room and looked at what was going on. In the big sofa sat 4 guys at least two years older than him, while another guy sat on the chair beside them.

"What do you think you're doing?" Sophia asked loudly. The boys on the sofa jumped up at the sound of her voice. "You're grounded! You're not suposed to have friends over, or play games!" Sophia says with a strict tone. The boys look over at the guy sitting in the chair with a snobby grin on his face. Before, he was leaning back in the chair, but now he raised his back.

"I'm not playing, they are." He spoke. His voice was relaxed but firm.

"Don't try me! Tell them to go and go to your room!" she sounded like a mom shaming her child. But instead of querreling, he just waved at the boys. "Well, you heard her. Get lost." The boys didn't hesitate a second before running out, clearly afraid of Sophia. Ezra hid halfway behind the wall to the hallway towards the stairs. He stared at the older boy. He had dark brown hair and green eyes, the same as Sophia. His gaze suddenly connected with the guy, and he quickly looked down.

"Who's this? Haven't seen that one before." the guy said still leaning forward in the chair smiling. "He's a friend! We're gonna study, so don't disturb us." Sophia said before walking over to Ezra and dragging him with her up the stairs to her room.

"Sorry about that. My brother is quiet the rebel right now." She said while searching her bag for her books. "Your....brother?" He remembered Sophia mentioning she has siblings, but she never talked about her brother. "Yeah, he's a second year in high school. His name is Mathias." She informs him and pats the side of her bed. "Come sit here, then we can start this studying session." her bright smile is back and Ezra feels his heart raising. He sits down on the bed and they start studying.

Ezra tried really hard to solve the math question, but all he could think about was when to confess to Sophia. Could he just blurt it out? No, that would just make it embarrassing if she rejected him. He was so afriad that his feelings would ruin their friendship. That reminded him of what she had said before. "He's a friend!" those three words looped in his head over and over. Maybe he shouldn't say anything, just wait until his feelings fade and maybe fall for someone else who he has a better chance with? But that seemed so impossible at the moment. He really, really like her! He opened his mouth to talk when Sophia beat him to it.

"I'm really glad I have you. I feel like we can do anything together! Don't you?" Ezra closed his mouth to let her speak.

"I mean, we've been best friends since third grade! Do you realize how strong our bond is?! I actually thought about making us some friendship bracelets but you're a guy so you might not want to wear somethig like that."

"No, I'd wear it..." he whispered, Sophia didn't seem to hear him.

"Like, I can talk to you about anything! I really hope my future husband is like you!"

That made Ezras heart jump over a beat. What did she mean? Was this his cue to tell her his real feelings?

"I'm so glad we can just be friends forever! I bet that your future wife will love you very much! Oh! What if we stay friends until we both get married, then our kids could be best friends too! Isn't that a great idea?!"

Ezra had no comment. He was completely in shock. She said it all so boldly. She had totally shut him down without him even saying a word. So this is what the friendzone is like...he thought to himself. While Sophia continued with her math, Ezra just sat there on his crushe's bed, about to cry. He knew this was the end. He coud ever tell her his feelings now. They were just friends, nothing more, nothing less. Suddenly a small tear fell down on his knees, afraid Sophia would see it he quickly excused himself and ran to the bathroom.

What had just happened? Was he dreaming? He was really rejected without even confessing.    "I'm such a loser!" Then the tears started falling. Big blank tears streamed down his face as he cried silently in front of the mirror.

The girl he had loved for six years had friendzoned him! There was no doubt Sophia didn't think of Ezra as more than a friend. The thought of having to watch her get married to someone else made him even sadder. Why was he so shocked though? Had he really thought a girl like Sophia would like him back? Why would she? He's just boring and shy! Just like his mom! A shut - in!
He had watched Sophia date other guys since they started in middle school. He knew her ideal type, tall, blonde, brown eyes, it was all about the appearance.
With Ezra's Black hair and Blue eyes, did he really think he had a chance?

He wiped his tears and took a minute to calm down, then he opened the bathroom door.
Right outside stood the guy from before, Mathias, Sophia's brother.
Ezra was really surprised and wondered if he had heard him crying.
They stared at each other for a second, then Jackson spoke first.
"Heartbreak can be tough."
Ezra's eyes widened in a surprised look, then he ran around him into Sophia's room.
