Chapter Eleven: Broken Compass
Danny
I feel movement on my chest. I can hear a phone vibrating on one of our bedside tables. Forcing my eyes open, I take in my surroundings.
Blonde hair is thrown across my chest and Grace is waking up with her head in the crook of my arm. My hand is resting on her arm, and I realize we're both naked. Both of our phones start vibrating in sync and Grace sighs, shifting again before rolling over to face me, her body pressed against my side.
"Hi." She whispers, and I grin.
"I never tire waking up to your face." I murmur, leaning down to kiss her.
She kisses me back for a moment and then pulls away when our phones vibrate again.
She sighs and reaches over to grab her own phone, and I see it's just the group chat, so I look at her screen instead of grabbing mine.
Dad: so I was thinking we all take a trip down to Savannah this weekend? And Marie can come?
Abby: that sounds like fun. Danny and Grace, bring the boat
Dad in Grace's phone is obviously Scott.
Grace starts typing.
Me: that'll be easy. Let's attach it to the hunk of plastic and metal in our driveway. We'll have no problem getting down there
Megan: ugh way to spoil it Grace, where's Danny? He'll say yes
Me: he's right next to me
Beatrice: what if you guys ride with us
Me: you don't have enough seats
Caleb: just take the truck wtf you'll be fine
Miley: idk this is really last minute financially and micah has a test to study for
Kyle: Miley is right, can we plan to do this like a month from now?
Megan: a month from now is October and its going to start getting cold
Kyle: that's true. Count us out then
Abby: but you have to go
Kyle: well we cant so
Me: this is super last minute and Danny and I don't really have reliable transportation right now. Why don't you all come over and we can go on the boat today or something? Marie can come
Miley: that sounds like a plan to me
Dad: alright, fine
Beatrice: what time
Me: whenever idc
Everyone just starts texting back their agreements to come, and suddenly Grace sits up.
"What?" I ask, putting my hand on her bare back.
"Baby, it's ten thirty."
"So?"
"So where are our children?"
My eyes widen slightly and I push the covers off of me, looking around the floor for my boxers.
I spot them on Grace's side of the bed and pick them up, pulling them on quickly. I pull on sweatpants as Grace rushes to pull on clothes, and I look down at the baby monitor and see that Ethan is not in his bed.
