As promised, here is the second installment of the Untold Tales.
Now, this was written on August 22, 10:49 am pst. This was before Blake x Dawn became canon, so just bear that in mind and don't start giving me heck for this. Although, I can post a revised version of this chapter, if you guys want it. Comment and let me know if you want a more revised version.
So yeah, here ya go!
Blake watched the sun sink below the walls of the mansion, and imagined her aching heart chasing after it. Safe in the sunshine, away from the dark of night that called to the Walkers and other allies of the dark. Away from the nightmares that haunted her in the heart of midnight, away from the pain of broken skin and even more broken hearts. Away from Misty and Kat... and Bryan.
He's just as dangerous, if not more so, Blake mused, lithe and deft fingers twisting around each other in an anxious dance. He is a man on the run, pursued by Kat for merely existing, and that nearly got us killed. His big heart is going to be the deaths of us all.
And yet, despite her bitterness over... Cam... she couldn't help but feel that the once innocent man was someone she could instinctively trust, no matter the circumstance. He had proved himself when he shot Cam in order to keep her and her group safe. And yet, she had a pretty good guess that, since then, her perspective about Bryan had changed to something deeper, something much more significant than mutual trust.
Do I... actually like him? Way more than normal? Blake turned away from the window and left the room, wandering the hallways as she remained in her contemplative mood. Is that why I never thought of taking my group and just leaving in the dead of night to keep them safe? Is that why I chose to remain by his side, despite all of the trauma and the hardships we endured together? I've never felt this way about anyone before...
Blake blinked and found herself in front of the back door, which led to the spacious backyard. She turned to go, but paused when she heard a whimper from outside and glimpsed Bryan, shaking his head as if to clear away some mental fog only he could see. He clutched his head lightly, staring at a point in the backyard as if Kat would appear there at any time.
Worried, she took a few steps toward him and called him by name. He turned, a look of confusion and the lingering fear etched in his features. When he saw her, the fear melted away and the lingering disorientation was replaced by relief. He smiled that small smile that could endear a child to him, and that now familiar flutter within Blake made itself known.
Is this what true friendship feels like? Blake asked herself as she lay on her back next to Bryan, admiring the stars winking down at them from above.
Or... is this something more?
Alrighty, next chapter may come around a few days from now, depending on if time will allow. Until next time!
Coming soon: Silent, but hopeful. Small, yet abounding in light. If you must speak, speak every word as though it were unique...
