Chapter 7

He tried to stay still and not to fell over while Jorge pressed the gas hard. They were driving over the desert to WICKED's building to save Thomas. Newt blamed himself for that. That WICKED got Thomas. That he was stuck in that stupid big gray box right now. It was all his fault.

,, You okay?" He felt a hand touching his shoulder. It was Minho.

,, I'm...Fine." Newt answered shortly.

,, Nope, shank, nope. You aren't fine. You are...something else." He sat down next to Newt. ,, I know you. While we were in the Glade, I got to know you pretty well. So, you aren't fine."

Newt sighed. ,, I'm just worried about Thomas. It was terrible in there and I'm just..."

,, Don't worry." Mingo patted him on the back. ,, We'll find and bring him back safely. And after that, we'll drive to the other side of the world so WICKED can't find us. Is that good?"

Newt sighed again. ,, I guess...Can you tell me the plan again?"

,, Newt-"

,, Please."

Now was Minho the one who sighed.
,, Fine. But pay attention this time."

Newt stayed quiet, waiting for Minho to talk.

,, We've sent few men in the WICKED so that they could fit in and give us information about what's happening in that building, what are WICKED's plans and so on. We know that WICKED has bombs and dynamite in their walls."

,, Why?" Newt didn't remember what Minho had told to him earlier.

,, Because when they discover that someone spies in there, they can escape with their leader and blow the building easily. So, our spies, John, and Michael  hacked in the WICKED's system and when we call and say that Thomas and everyone else are safe, they'll blow this building."

,, But what about them? If they stay in there they're gonna die!"

,, They know that. And they're willing to sacrifice themselves to save Thomas."

Newt didn't like that. Of course, he wanted Thomas back, but he didn't want two innocent boys to die. A lot of them had died already.

He didn't say anything.

,, Drive slowly, Jorge, so they wouldn't notice us." Minho said. The man listened to him and they slowed down.

Newt looked out of a window and saw WICKED's building. He remembered the last time he was in there.

It was terrible.

And now was Thomas in there.

,, I, Newt, Gally and few other boys will go in. You'll stay in the forest and when we'll run out, you'll come and we'll escape. Understood?"

Jorge nodded. ,, Everything is under control, hermano."

,, Good."

Minho giving orders reminded Newt the time Minho was the Keeper of the Runners. Back to the Maze times, he was the one who gave orders only to Runners but now he gave orders to everyone.
And everyone listened to him.

They waited few long minutes until Minho said to stop the car. Jorge pushed the brake. Newt felt how adrenaline began to flow in his blood. He was ready.

,, Gally?" Minho said into his watch. The watches were like phones through what they could talk.

,, Yea?"

,, You ready?"

,, Were ready."

,, Okay..Were coming out."

Minho opened the car's door and checked that no-one wasn't outside waiting for them.

,, The coast is clear." He said and two boys went out.

They saw Gally and two other boys who were already out too.

Minho beckoned to them.

They ran quickly behind one big rock.

,, Listen, we'll run quickly to the side of the building so the cameras won't notice us. We can't allow mistakes so be quick and quiet." Minho looked at all boys, especially Newt because he had a limp.

,, I'll go in front, Newt will come right behind me and then everyone else. Gally?"

,, Yeah?"

,, You'll be the last one."

The boy nodded. ,, Okay."

,, Keep an eye on what's happening behind us. I'll trust you on this one."

,, You can count on me."

Newt didn't remember the old Gally, who was the meanest and didn't want anything to change. He didn't remember the old Gally who killed Chuck. Okay, he was under WICKED's control then, but this didn't count. He was good at fighting and could've beat up anyone who didn't listen to his word.

But now he was a totally different person.
He was friendly and wanted to help with everything. Including saving Thomas which Newt thought he wouldn't have done earlier.

Minho looked over the rock.

,, Go!"

Adrenaline became stronger and Newt ran out from behind that rock faster than ever. Even his limp didn't distract him anymore. He looked quickly behind himself. Two boys and Gally were there.

And then he fell.

,, Newt!" Minho turned around within a second and ran back to Newt.

,, Get up! Gally, cover us!" He helped Newt up. ,, You okay?"

No.

,, Yes."

,, Move on! But faster this time!"

Everybody listened to Minho's word and ran quicker. Soon, they reached the building.

,, The head door is on the right. Thomas is somewhere in there, but I don't know where what makes this mission harder."

,, I think I know where he can be."
Everyone turned to Newt.

,, You do?"

,, Well, I was in there and I think that there are only two options where he could possibly be."

,, Where?"

,, One, talking with WICKED's head, Lea Paige in her cabinet...or two, in some room where I was too."

,, And how many rooms are in there?" That question came from Gally.

,, A lot, I guess."

,, Did yours had some kinda sign on the door or was it different from the others?"

,, Everything is white in there, so I guess no."

,, Good. Then we can just hope on my luck...which I don't actually have." Minho said.

,, They weren't many guards in there, only doctors, scientists...whoever they were."

,, Okay. Let's just be ready...Let's go."

They moved towards the head door.

,, We're going in." Minho said into his watch.

,, Be safe." The reply came from Brenda.

,, We will." Minho answered and they entered the building.

I'm coming, Tommy.
