"Jeeessseee-""No."
"But I wanna go."
"No."
Jess-"
"For the last time Jessica, no I'm not taking you to the carnival so sit your butt down and continue coloring."
"But Jeese, I promised my friends that I'll be there. And I'll tell mommy you said a bad word."
"Well you're the one who made the promise, so-"
"Jesse Jones!" His mother's booming voice echoed. "Please take your little sister to the Easter carnival down the street, she's been waiting for weeks." she looked at him with pleading eyes.
Jesse groaned, "Mom why? Can't you take her instead?"
"I'm sorry Jesse, I would love to but I have a meeting that I need to tend to and it's really important." she replies. Before Jesse could protest, she continues. "I'll give you money to spend on for today and extra allowance for the next week as a reward."
Jesse pondered for a moment before accepting the offer. He did need the money, if not he was going broke. College was definitely taking a toll on him. Turning to the tiny girl next to him, "Wipe that smirk off your face before I change my mind you brat, go get changed." he muttered darkly as he dragged himself off the comfort of the couch to get ready as well.
After slipping on a red flannel and receiving the "reward" from his mother, Jesse left with his sister to the Easter carnival downtown.
The entrance of the carnival was decorated with colorful streams of balloons and dancers that waxed crazily in the air. The loud pumping of music got Jesse's ears ringing. Oh, there were so many things he could be doing right now, instead of wasting his time with his sister at this dumb carnival.
Taking a deep breath and clutching onto Jessica's tiny hand tightly, he mutters, "Don't let my hand go." They head in and joined the hyped crowd.
Jesse managed to survive the crowd and found the map of the carnival, quickly scanning for the shortest and fastest route possible. The heat was unbearable.
"Oh my gosh JEESE THERE'S COTTON CANDY OH MY GOSH-" and before he could even react, the five year old let go of his hand and ran in the direction of the cotton candy booth.
Jesse rolled his eyes before chasing after the run-away toddler. "Jessica what did I just tell you about not letting go of my hand?" he scolded as he grabbed Jessica's arm and tickling her a little, the girl squealing and holding onto her cotton candy for dear life. Jesse turned back to the stall owner, holding the little ones arm tightly, "How much?"
"2 dollars, and it's nice to see you here too, Jesse."
Jesse lifted a brow before noticing that the stall guy was Aiden. "Oh, hey Aiden, I didn't know you were working at the carnival."
"Yeah, and dying from heat stroke." he laughed.
"Ah, well is was nice seeing you-"
"Hey! Do you know where the egg hunt is? We can't find it anywhere." Jessica pouted, "I want to hunt eggs!"
"Oh, it's over there near the game booths." Aiden answered.
Jessica nodded furiously, tugging Jesse's sleeve, "Hurry, hurry! Let's go!"
"Geez, she really loves candy." Aiden smiles. "Go ahead, maybe I'll catch up with you guys later. See you around, Jesse!"
"Sure! See you!" Jesse said quickly as he was dragged off by the surprisingly strong toddler.
