Astrid's POV:

Again! Seriously Astrid, cant you keep your lips to yourself?

I was in the second floor of my room, laying on my bed and staring out of the window on the roof. I rolled over and sighed, I've only known Hiccup for a day and I've kissed him twice... He probably thinks I'm just another one of those shameless sluts who kiss every boy they meet. I laid there for a minute before sighing and getting up, grabbing my backpack from the other side of the room.

My backpack was old and worn, I hadn't the chance or money to buy myself a new one, I only used the little money I had for the essentials, even then I didn't spend any money on things like food as I would generally just hunt for my own food back when I lived in the woods. I stared at it for a bit before unzipping it carefully, revealing the bunch of unorthodox things inside. Looking inside I slipped my hand into a well-hidden hole in the seams and pulled out my switchblade. When the others went through my bag, they had either found it and decided to leave it, or they didn't find it in the first place. I smiled, at least I had something to defend myself with. Putting it back in its place, I continued to rummage through my bag, eventually finding what I was looking for. It was a chipped photo frame with a picture of my parents and my younger sister Daisy inside it. It was a picture of them in Cheddar Gorge, England, I had taken the picture only a few months before I left them. Before I ran away.

A teardrop dripped onto the protective glass, I hadn't realized it but I had started crying. pulling the photo against my chest I let out a sob, I missed them. I missed them so, so much. I miss my mum's cooking and how she sang to me when I had a nightmare, I miss my overprotective father and his workshop where he would craft things out of wood, I miss my little sister, I miss playing with her in the garden and I miss reading to her before she went to bed, I miss her contagious smile. My sobs grew louder, I fell to the side shaking and crying feverishly. Why did I leave? Why was I so stupid as to leave? I was crying so hard I didn't notice someone enter my room and come up the stairs towards me.

...

Ruffnut's POV:

I and my twin brother Tuffnut had retired back to our room just over an hour ago. Our room was across the hallway from the new girl, Astrid's room. I had just finished putting barf and belch, our green anacondas, back into their cage when I heard a muffled sob.

I looked over to Tuffnut who was watching TV. He didn't look like he made the noise, as he didn't look very upset, but then again he was Tuffnut and he was rather unpredictable.

"Hey Tuff?"

"Yeah?"

"Did you just sob?"

"No, why?"

"Oh... Nothing."

I turned back to the cage, shrugging it off as just my imagination. Until I heard it again, the sobs were louder this time and definitely not coming from Tuffnut.

I walked down to the door, opening it slowly. I looked around for anyone who might be crying, I was about to turn around and go back into my when I heard a sob come from Astrid's room. Concerned, I left the safety of my room before walking over to her door and knocking, I didn't get a reply, only more sobbing noises. Growing more and more concerned, I tried the handle, surprised when the door clicked and swung open. I hesitated before stepping inside, carefully closing the door behind me. I scaled the stairs, figuring that whoever was crying was up there as the bottom floor looked rather empty. Since it was an open floor I didn't need to look hard to see Astrid, she was curled up on the floor facing the back wall, crying her eyes out. My eyes widened and I ran across to where she was curled up, kneeling down in front of her. Reaching out my hand, I gently shook her shoulder to get her attention. She looked up at me, tears dribbling down her cheeks and onto the floor.
