The calm before the storm was a good way to describe what happened prior to a storm, but it also suitably described the middle as well, Peso reflected as he hung on to the side of an examination table for dear life.

They had had a good ten minutes before the storm had struck again. In that time he had 'battened down the hatches' as Kwazii might have said. He had put a perforated cover over the tank in the sick bay so that his patients would still have oxygen, but they wouldn't get washed out of their tanks when the waters got choppy. He also managed to get most of his supplies back into their cabinets, with the doors securely shut. Sure, there were still a couple of bandage rolls bumping around, unrolling as they went, that he would have to re-wrap and put away later, but at least those were soft and couldn't hurt anyone.

As Peso held on to the table he had some worrisome thoughts. How were the creatures doing that were outside the Octopod? He knew that there would definitely be injuries, and he started to go over all his supplies in his mind, making sure he would have enough to treat everyone in the days to come.

And what about his crew? With this much turbulence, there was no telling about the injuries that his crew, his friends, might sustain.

He turned toward the window, trying to see if the water had gotten any clearer. Then, he saw it. A silver fish with a hurt fin was shoved violently past the window by the fierce currents, her injured fin unable to hep her. As he looked at her, she looked at him and they locked their eyes. In that moment, he saw the total desperation in her gaze, she knew that she probably wouldn't make it through the storm with her hurt fin.
