Alexander has been thumbing through his documents sense 7AM and has been to a mind numbing meeting that lasted at least three hours and even though he doesn't normally find meetings so tiring this one just simply killed him. So when he looked at the time and saw it was 3:40PM and time for lunch the thought of coffee was amazing, he stood up and stretched hearing his spin pop and snap and he let out a groan and went to the lobby.
He decided that instead of the coffee from the staff room he would treat himself to a coffee from the café for once. So when he walked into the café and the bell above the door chimed he let out a sigh at the smell of fresh brewed coffee. He walked over and ordered a black coffee with a small BLT and settled into a booth to eat his sandwich and sip his coffee he was lost in thought of everything for some reason he drifted to James Madison and his little affair. {Why do i care?} he asked himself, it wasn't his business and he didn't understand the anger bubbling in his stomach at the thought of James cheating on Thomas.
The doorbell chimed.
He snapped out of his thoughts and looked over and cringed heavily at Thomas Jefferson walking in with entwined fingers with none other but James Madison. He glared at James and when the man turned his head and made eye contact with Alexander and took a confused expression, Alexander just stood abruptly grabbing his coffee and leaving a half eaten sandwich behind.
{I can't take it anymore I am gonna talk with that basted later} he started the car and drove back to the office.
P.O.V CHANGE
Thomas walked into the café with James at his side and he grinned at the man next to him the past week had been great, the thought of James cheating on him had been abandoned at this point. For everything seemed to be perfect, movie dates, dinners, he was never late to anything which was nice. He can't help but laugh at the time he had a thing for Alexander in college. He gave up on Alex when he got engaged with Eliza and he then fell for James.
“Huh” the sound of James snapped him out of it.
“What?” he raise a eyebrow as James turned back to him.
“Hamilton was here” that was strange within itself
“He never leaves his office”
“I know but that isn't the weird part. He glared at me and then walked out with a coffee” Thomas scoffed
“Ignore him. He is just trying to start a fight” James rolled his eyes
“Tell me something I don't know”
Still, Thomas couldn't help but wonder why he would glare at James.
P.O.V CHANGE
“I am worried about you Alexander” George Washington folded his hands in his lap and gave Alexander a worried and serious look.
“I am fine sir.” Alexander tried to hide the tired slur in his voice but knowing George Washington he probably noticed because his gaze narrowed and he pursed his lips like he always does.
“Son, this past month--” he was cut off by a huff.
“Nothing happened this month” He hated lying but honesty he didn't need this right now.
“Eliza” that one name seemed to shake his core, Alexander felt his heart drop to his stomach and his hands start sweating as he sighed heavily and the look of regret and despair crossed over his cinnamon colored eyes.
“I am working through it sir.” his response was tight and clearly forced as he gave a plastic like smile.
“There is no amount of work that can distract from a broken heart son” oh he knows, more than Washington should think, he was tried.
“Sir..” the nickname was starting to get annoying.
“You need to take care of yourself Alexander. You can't just keep pushing threw deadlines and living off of coffee and breakfast bars. You need to learn how to take a break son.”
“Don't call me son” those were the words Eliza always told him, Take a break. Well he couldn't, Alexander Hamilton was a hurricane, he didn't stop.
“Son we need you fully awake and functioning”
“I am” he grunts starting to loose himself with how much the older man was starting to sound like everyone he missed; Eliza, Angelica, Everyone.
“Son--”
“CALL ME SON ONE MORE TIME” he snapped.
“Go home”
What?
“What?”
“Go home Alexander, that's a order”
No
“....” he grabs his bag and leaves wordlessly with a strained expression and a voice telling how bad he just fucked up in the back of his head.
Alexander throws his bag on his couch and falls right beside it, great. Now he defiantly wasn't gonna sleep tonight. He gripped his shirt and the things he ever so hard tried to ignore flooded in.
Eliza
Mariah
Washington
Angelica
Angelica…”god I hope your satisfied!”
The words rang like a bell that wouldn't stop ringing, like the bell at the café that chimed whenever someone walk though or like the thoughts that crept into his brain when he was alone.
Knock, knock, knock.
“The fuck?” he got up lazily and walked to the door, he looked through the peephole and his throat tightened and his breath hitched. He opened the door “Eliza…” there was a determined looking Eliza with a shy looking Peggy behind her.
“Alexander” she said promptly and her soft spoken voice seemed to have the power of a fully packed punch to the gut from a body builder.
“Come in!” he moved aside and Eliza walked in and Peggy looking oddly timid behind her.
“I came to get my stuff Alexander” she said gravely.
“What?” it came as a breathy whisper as his eyes widened and she looked at him with that smile that made him have butterflies all over again and fill with love.
“I can't Alex..I’m sorry, I tried I really did but..I just can't do this” he felt himself plummet.
“What? Eliza..please” she looked away as tears started to fill and Peggy hugged her.
“We didn't let Angelica come cause she would get too mad” said Peggy. Suddenly everything became so real. Eliza’s light baby blue dress and her dark brown hair with a single long braid falling over her left shoulder. Peggy's sunny summer dress and her dark hair pulled up in a messy bun and her timid figure hugging her older sister in a tight embrace. It seemed like he could even hear the air move and the smallest creaks in the floor and feel the crack in his heart.
“Okay” what!? Why was he agreeing to this? Why wasn't he fighting? Pleading, begging her to stay? He just hopelessly watched her move around the room gathering the cloths and nicknacks around the house as Peggy went and came back with a few boxes and suitcases. He just stood like a brainless showcase dummy at a mall.
“Goodbye Alexander” he heard the soft spoken voice but wasn't listening as she have a tiny wave.
“See ya Alex” said Peggy as she grabbed the last box and suitcase and he heard the door close. He looked around, if he felt like the house was empty then it was barren now. He let out a cracked sob.
He was on the floor in seconds. “No” he choked he got up again and looked around when he stopped..at a certain object. A golden ring with a small jewel laid on the coffee table in the living room.
Eliza's wedding ring.
And like that the world shattered in seconds for the Treasury Secretary.
