Chapter 10

Maria

I woke up in a hospital room,i tried to move but i couldnt.My chest was wrapped up,me leg was elvated and in a cast,and my arm and lip had stiches.My knees looked brusied."Hey beautiful,you're up." I looked around and tried to see him,it was Nat's voice.He came up to my side,held my hand and hovered over me so i wouldnt struggle to see him."Hey,don't move so much.The doctor said you have to relax,and I'm your personal nurse." I tried to smile at him but the stiches didn't make it easy."As your nurse i suggest you lay off the smiling for a while." I nodded and motioned for him to come closer as i kissed him gently.He smiled and looked at someone towards the door."Mija,kissing him in my presence!" She came up to me and hugged me gently."Your a hot mess." I smiled and looked her over.She looked like she hadnt showered,her hair looked like a bird's nest,and she was shaking."I wouldn't be the one talking," i smirked."Oh be quiet,I'm just glad you're ok." Nat smiled,"She's going ot be fine Mrs.Ambriz,don't wory about it.I've taken to be her personal nurse." My mom smiled. Nat leaned in,"looking forward to giving you sponge baths." I smiled and he looked up like no one had heard him. "You two do know im still standing right here right?" Nat blushed as his phone rang,"I should get that." I nodded and he went outside."So how did this happen?" I sighed,"Mom i really dont want to talk about it." My mom looked at me and nodded and explained to me she had to go back to Colorado.I nodded and she said she would leave Monday morning.

Nat

I answered my phone,"Hello?" A lady answered,"Hello,is this Nathaniel Wolff?" "Yes it is,how can i help you?" "Im Rachel McGuire,calling on behaf of the Ambriz vs.Cuevas&Avila case.I believe you contacted my office to act as your lawyer" "Oh yeah,what can i do for you." "Well I need to talk to my client so i can get the story from her.The police forms and court orders are very vague on details." "Yes you can speak to her,but she is in recovery mode so can you meet us at my house in say,3 days from now?" "Sounds great,thank you Mr.Wolff." "No no,thank you." Then the line went dead.I walked back in and smiled at her"Mrs.Ambriz,may i speak to you?" She nodded at me,"Yea Nat." We stepped outside and i sighed,"Maria's accident was a pshycotic plan made by no other than Daniel Cuevas and Mia Avila.Maria has to testify against them." I saw tears stream down her cheeks,"Daniel and Mia? They had been in my house so much and they seemed so great." She mummbled to herself in spanish. "Your nephew Jack may also be charged,he was an accomplice in the kidnapping that took place." She sighed,"Why would he do this to her?" "Mrs.Ambriz,he had no choice.Daniel beat him up and threated to kill Maria and I if he didnt lead them to us.I've got it covered,I called a lawyer.She'll see Maria and I when we're back at the cabin and we'll discuss this whole thing." She gave me a worried look,"Does she know she has to testify against them?" I sghed,"I havent told her,ill tell her today." She nooded,"Please call us when you know the date of the trial." I nodded and she hugged me,"I'm glad she has you." I smiled,"Im glad she lets me be here for her."She smiled as we walked back into Maria's room.She smiled at us and i laughed,"What did i tell u about smiling." She giggled.

Maria

It looked like my mom and Nat were getting along nicely. "So what's going on?" Their smiles disappeared as Nat walked up to me,"I need to tell you something." My mom had sadness in her eyes as she excused herself. It was just Nat and I.He pulled up a chair next to me as he held my hand,"Maria,last night i got a call.The only way Daniel and Mia can be put into jail for good,is for you to testify against them." My hand tensed up,"You're telling me I'd have to go into a room with them." He nodded. "I cant go into a room with two people who tried to kill me,I can't do this Nat.I can't face them." "Yes you can,I'll be there with you." He looked me in the eyes,"If you don't,theyll be free and could do worse." Nat was right,I have to this. I sighed,"I'll do it." He smiled and kissed me,"We're going to end this." I smiled,"It'll be over."
