"Oh fuck. Oh fuck, oh fuck, what's going on?" I turn to Violet and start shaking her shoulders furiously, only to receive a middle finger and a grumbled 'fuck off.'

"Vie, you need to wake up right now! Get your ass up, please!" Violet looks up at me through squinted eyes

"The fuck Julie? I'm trying to sleep, It's too damned early for this shit." She turns back over "And turn the fucking light off."

I shove Violet harder, "I can't turn the damn sun off Vie! We're not home, I have no idea where the hell we are!" I rub my eyes and grimace as I grind dirt into my pupils.

Violet groans and turns onto her back, squinting her eyes as she glares at me. "I fucking hate.....oh-my-god where the fuck are we!?" She quickly scrambles onto her feet and looks around frantically. "Oh my god, I thought it was all just a dream. This is so fucking insane! No no no no..."

"See I told you!" I stand up beside my friend and stretch out. I freeze as I finally process her words as a whole and raise an eyebrow. "What are you talking about? Why did you say 'just a dream'?"

"I had a dream about that Mayan ghost chick from the Assassin's Creed Game. She showed me clips of some dude dying and said I gotta save him." Violet pulls her mahogany-dyed hair into her mouth and chews it. "I thought it was a load of bullshit, but...I guess not." She looks around herself quietly, pulling her hair harder as I try to pull it out of her mouth.

"Stop that will you? No wonder your hair is a rat's nest. Look, I had that dream too so that's fucking awesome." I look around us and stare at the line of houses near where the rooster ran. "Are we even in America? Hell, what if we're in seventeenth century Germany or something like that? I don't know any German and we're certainly not dressed like it!"

Violet scoffs and grabs my arm "Why don't we actually look around? The sooner we save this dude's ass, the sooner I can be back in my own bed."

Violet and I quickly make our way to some fencing on the side of a house and peek over. At the sight of soldiers in red coats walking down a filthy street, I groan and punch the fence.

"The American Revolution? We have to fight in a war?" Violet gets off of her tiptoes and leans her back against the wall. "I don't understand what's going on Jules. Do we have to save Washington or something?"

I shrug, I don't want this, I'm not made to fight. "I don't fucking know...but this is-" I look up suddenly at Violet, a grin spreading across my face as I start thinking of the hooded man in my dream.

"What if it's Connor who we save? Oh my god, what if we become assassins!" I clap my hands and do a few tiny jumps. My despair finally fading.

Violet raised her eyebrow at me, "Really? You're fine risking death as long as it has to do with Connor? Girl, get your priorities straight!"

I show Violet my middle finger and my tongue "Shut up, you haven't even gotten to play as Connor yet so you don't get it. He's pretty much the reason we're not part of England!"

"It's a video game Jules! That's seriously all it is and you need to get over it! It won't be Connor, he's not real!"

I glare at my frustrated friend. Yeah, I understand that it's a video game, but does she have to be a bitch about it? "Just shut up Vie, you don't need to get all pissy about it."

Violet crosses her arms, and then uncrosses them again. "Fuck no! Look, I'm sorry about being a bitch but I seriously think you need to be realistic about all of this! It's a game that they put fake characters into it to make it interesting! We can do this, we just need a place to start."

I sigh, Violet and I have always had a bipolar friendship; we can be fine one moment, to fighting the next, then right back to fighting about something totally off subject.

"Fine" I mutter, opening the gate that leads to the streets. "Let's just ask the people in this house what's up and see if we can get some money off of them."

Violet grabs my arm and pulls me back before I step out into the open streets. "Woah now, we're not exactly in the best...condition to be walking around in this time period. We probably look like whores in their standards."

I look at my pajamas and then at Violet's: I'm wearing leggings and an oversized T-shirt while she's wearing a tank top with flannel pants.

I smirk, "You wear your bra while you sleep? No wonder you're always buying new ones!"

"Oh shut up, it's a good thing I am now given the circumstances!"

I roll my eyes, "Whatever, we don't look like whores. But if it makes you happy, we'll say we were robbed by highway men or something on our way to Boston or New York and they took our clothes."

Violet's eyes grow wide, I can tell she's not for this because she's a bad liar "What if they start asking questions? What then? Oh god, we're going to be killed within the hour!"

I walk through the gate and make my way to the front door, "Never fear Vie, I am an expert at talking bullshit."

I hear her mutter 'no kidding' as she follows behind me but choose to ignore her, as usual. Once at the front door, I raise my hand to knock but suddenly freeze. I'm seriously about to knock on the door of a house the could be holding a rapist, a british soldier, or even George Washington himself. This is the stupidest thing anyone could be doing.

I quickly turn to Violet, my cheeks heating up. "You knock."

Violet's eyes grow wide with fear as if I'm ordering her to jump off a cliff "No. Fuck no. You know how I get with people."

"Please."

"No!"

"Please."

"I hate you."

"I'll owe you one."

"Like hell you will Jules."

"C'mon, just knock."

"You're going to make me do the talking too, stop asking."

I throw my hands in the air, surrendering. Saw that coming a mile away. I turn back to the door and take a deep breath before rapping my knuckles three times against the wood.

I could hear faint whispers coming from inside along with chairs being scraped against the floor and hurried footsteps. It all went quiet and I was about to knock again when a single set of heavy footsteps grew louder until it reached the other side of the door. I took another deep breath as the door opened and looked up into dark brown eyes shaded by a white hood.

Connor.
