"Quinn, why did you hide this from us?" Sophia asked slightly hurt."You have to promise not to tell Ash!" Quinn said as he pulled his hand behind his back.
"What do you mean I can't tell Ash! She has to know that you still have magic. Quinn, Ash blames herself for not protecting you. You almost died, and Ash stopped eating and drinking while we were waiting for some news. You have to tell her." Sophia advised.
"I didn't tell her because I didn't want her to worry that someone might come after me again. I want to live my life without bringing anyone down, Sophia." Quinn calmly said back. "We never found the guy who did this, and I don't want to pressure her with all that she has going on right now. I found out I had this power about a year ago. The only thing I can do
"Quinn, we can't keep this a secret forever." Sophia said finally calm.
"I'll tell Ash when the time is right."
"Fine. But that better be soon, or I'm going to tell her myself."
THE NEXT WEEK
"If you don't tell Ash by midnight tonight, I'm telling her the truth." Sophia told Quinn.
"Tell me what?" Ash asked as she walked up to Sophia and Quinn.
"We have a surprise for you!" Quinn said as he quickly made up a lie in his head.
"Oh! What's the surprise!" Ash asked.
"We got you a new...um...wolf puppy!" Sophia said.
"Really! Where is it!" Ash said excitedly.
"Go to your house Ash. Sophia and I will bring the puppy to you later this afternoon, ok." Quinn said calmly.
" I'm going to go buy some supplies. See you guys later!" Ash called behind her back as she ran to her house.
"Bye!" Sophia called after her.
"What were you thinking!" Quinn yelled at Sophia.
"I was thinking I'd get her off your back so you can think of a way to tell her you still have magic." Sophia yelled back
"You're right. Let's just get the dog and bring it to Ash's house." Quinn said.
All the sudden they heard an explosion from Ash and Sophia's house. Quinn and Sophia ran to the house and saw it on fire, the flames spreading everywhere.
"Ash! Where are you!" Quinn called out.
"Ash!" Sophia yelled.
They saw an arm lying underneath a piece of wood blown off from the house.
"Ash!" Sophia cried as she ran towards her.
Sophia threw the piece of wood on top of Ash off to the side and rolled her over so she was on her back.
"Ash, wake up!" Quinn said." Please. I can't live without you. Sophia, can you find a medic?" Quinn asked with tears running down his face.
"Of course." Sophia said as she ran to the infirmary.
Ash suddenly groaned and tried to sit up, but winced when she couldn't.
"Try not to move Ash. You have a large wound on your left side." Quinn said softly.
"What happened?" Ash asked in a whisper.
"There was an explosive in your house. Do you remember anything before that?" Quinn asked.
"I remember I walked inside the house and saw a tripwire in front of my door. I stepped over the tripwire and turned around to disarm it when my foot hit another one behind me. I saw arrows with a yellow mist around it, kind of like the one that hit you when you were 16. They flew over my head, and that's when I heard the sizzle of TNT go off. I stood up to run out of the house, but it was to late. I remember flying through the air and hitting the ground with a terrifying crack, then everything went black." Ash said as tears went down her face.
"Just try to calm down. Sophia went to the infirmary to get a medic." Quinn said sympathetically.
Ash lay her head back down on the ground, but kept moving because she couldn't get comfortable. Quinn stood up from where he was next to Ash, and moved to where her head was resting. He picked up her head and moved it onto his lap so it would be more comfortable. Ash finally got comfortable and fell asleep.
Sophia got back with the medic moments later and saw Ash asleep in Quinn's lap. She motioned for Quinn to wake Ash up so the medic could check her wounds. Quinn gently shook Ash awake.
"Ash. Wake up, the medic is here to make sure your injuries aren't serious. " Quinn said.
Ash woke and smiled at Quinn, but then sat up violently and threw up on the grass.
"Ash!" Quinn yelled.
"Step back." The medic told Quinn.
Quinn obediently took a step back and let the medic check on Ash.
"She seems ok other than the deep wound on her side. She also has a mild concussion, which explains the vomiting." The medic said. " we will make sure she gets plenty of food, water, and rest at the infirmary. Do you think you can help me carry her back?"
"Of course."Sophia said politely.
"Yeah." Quinn said quietly.
Quinn and Sophia each grabbed one of Ash's arms, and the medic grabbed her legs. They lifted her up and carried her back the infirmary where they already had a bed prepped for Ash. They laid Ash down in the bed and let her rest a while before waking her up to eat. After Ash ate a little and drank a little, she fell back asleep.
While Ash slept Quinn and Sophia stayed in the chairs that were provided. Sometimes they slept, and sometimes they were thinking about what would happen next. Around 6:00 the next morning Sophia went to a friend's house to clean up while Quinn stayed behind to watch Ash.
"Yellow Mist. Like the blue mist from the arrow when I got hit a few years ago. Is it the same person? Are they trying to hurt my friends now?" Quinn said to himself.
All the sudden there was a groan from Ash.
"Ash!" Quinn exclaimed.
"It hurts..." Ash said.
"Don't move. I'll get the medic."
Quinn rushed out of the room. And ran down the hall to find the medic.
