Below the Surface (Avengers Fanfiction)

~Thirteen~

There was so much life in the coral. There were hermit crabs, turtles, starfish, shrimp, little crabs, fish, and so much more. There were also a few sharks lying on the sand, their fins were tipped with white.

I dove down and pet one of them on the nose, it looked confused as I swam off.

I moved onto investigating the life living among the corals, I could see a few eels poking their heads out of their hidey holes to scent the water around them.

I swam by a few of them, but they quickly retreated back into their hidey holes.

I was saddened by it, but I continued to explore for a bit.

I started popping my head above the surf to see if Steve or anybody else was on the beach.

I poked my head up and saw the entire team on the beach, Natasha was tanning with Wanda and the guys were playing around in the water with a ball.

I headed over there, selecting Steve as my victim. I swam through the blue waters, my tail blending in nicely with the color as I slowly swam over to him.

I could hear their muffled speech as they tossed the ball around, seemingly avoiding giving it to Steve. Probably because of his strength.

When I was close enough, I grabbed Steve's legs and jerked him under the water. Swimming off as fast as I could.

I heard the panicked shouts of Steve's name as I hauled him off, Steve struggled in panic as well.

I let him up after I swam almost all the way back to the reef; Steve shot up to the surface, taking a deep breath.

"Syrena!" he all but yelled as he surfaced.

I poked my head up beside him with a grin.

I could see the relief in the others as they heard him.

"That was rude," Steve scolded.

I dunked him under the water for his trouble before swimming back to shore. Well, I was on my way to do that, but Steve grabbed my tail and jerked me back to where he was.

I popped back above the water, only for Steve to dunk me back beneath the water as revenge.

I splashed water in his face with my tail, causing him to release me.

I swam back to shore before he could wipe the salty water from his eyes.

He rolled his eyes and swam back over to the rest to finish the volleyball game as Pietro gave me a high-five.
