Chapter Five

Alex's POV

I forced my eyes away from him and stared at the nashanitha. The crowds had gone silent, up in the king's box the boy had covered his younger sister's eyes, and peered over her head, his eyes wide. The nashanitha looked unfazed, but Natalie glanced at me out of the corner of her eye. I knew what she was thinking, but I didn't like the plan. We would take care of the nashanitha, and then go help Jasper. I caught a glimpse of him. He lay in a pool of his blood, unconscious. That's when Natalie and I both lunged at the nashanitha. I faked going right and went left, sliding under it. It roared in pain as Natalie shot an arrow and implanted it in the left snakes neck. I stared up at the nashanithas fur on its underbelly. I would only have a couple seconds to do this. I plunged my sword into its stomach, my sword sank up to its hilt. It roared in pain again. I left my sword where it was and scrambled out from under it just in time, before it collapsed on its side and ceased to breathe. Natalie shot an arrow straight into its throat to make sure it was dead for sure. And it was.

Then I remembered. Jasper. How could I have forgotten? We raced to his side. His shoulder was coated with blood, and was surrounded by a pool of blood as well. I tore off the sleeves off my shirt tore them into strips. I wrapped them around the wound. Natalie did the same as me and mopped up the blood that still welled up where the wound was. The wound itself was two deep puncture marks that dug deep into his should. Panic swept through me. Despite what I thought, I couldn't lose him.

"Okay," Natalie started, "We have to get him to a place where he can be treated."

The king and queen came down from their box, bringing their children with them. The king looked at Jasper, and turned to the boy.

"Kai," he said, "Go with your sister to get a medic."

The boy, Kai, nodded and ran off, his younger sister hot on his heels. I couldn't take my eyes off Jasper. If I lost him... well, I didn't want to think about that.

"Can you save him?" I asked, struggling to control my voice.

"I would assume so." he responded. Why did I not trust that? Then I shook the thought out of my head, and gently brushed Jasper's blonde hair out of his closed eyes and stood up. Soon, a man, which I assumed to be the medic, entered the arena, the two kids racing ahead of him. He bent over Jasper and motioned for us to give him some space. We did as he asked and Jasper was rushed to a room that Natalie and I couldn't enter. I wasn't very happy about this, and I'll spare you the details of my reaction...

We waited for what seemed like forever outside that room. Then one of the doctors came out and said they would let one person in. Natalie looked at me and said,

"You can go in. I'll wait."

I walked in, and the doctors left so we could have some space. I sat down next to the cot he lay on and slipped my hand into his. After a couple minutes of staying like that I did something that I somehow don't regret. I leaned down and gently kissed him on the cheek. He smiled softly in his unconsciousness. Then I stood up and left the room, a smile playing on my lips.

Natalie looked at me questioningly, but I shrugged like nothing had happened. Then we headed to a room the king had assigned to us. We were soon asleep, fighting the monster had taken a lot out of us.

----------LE TIME SKIPPETY SKIP----------

When I woke up, my first thought was,

Jasper.

Then I pushed that thought to the back of my mind, and dressed quickly once I saw Nat was awake as well. When I came out I was wearing a gray t-shirt and black jeans. My sword was strapped at my waist.

"Where is he?" I demanded as soon as I saw Natalie.

"Calm down, he's still recovering. It's not magic, you know."

She seemed to realize her slip-up. "I-I'm sorry! I-" she started to say.

"It's okay." I interrupted.

She breathed a sigh of relief. "Alright. Come and eat."

I wasn't really hungry, but I ate anyways, and ate quickly so I could see Jasper. A couple of times I saw Natalie glance at me and smirk, but I ignored her. I knew she was still shipping us relentlessly. Useless.

I ignored the thoughts nagging at me.

Is it really useless? You know it's not. You know you like him. No, you don't just like him, you lo-

I broke myself free of my thoughts, and quickly stood up and turned around so Natalie wouldn't see me blushing.

"I'm going to go see how he is." I told her.

"Mhm." she replied. Once I closed the door behind me, I heard her burst out laughing, and say,

"She can be so dense sometimes!"

I turned and made my way down the hall, and soon came to the medical wing. I pushed open the door and entered, glancing around for Jasper. When I saw him, he was awake. I raced over to him. His eyes lit up and a beautiful smile broke out over his face. His green eyes glittered in excitement to see me, and he looked as cute as ever. Wait... NO NO NO. NO. No and that was final! But I smiled at him, and I soon found that the smile wasn't forced like I thought it had been.

"So, I lived." he said jokingly.

"Well, apparently!" But I couldn't keep the laugh out of my voice, and when he heard it he smiled even more, if that was possible. But I ended up blurting out, "I'm glad your alive." He blushed at that.

"Um-"

"I-I mean, I, um, I'm just glad you're alive because we need to, um, find the Time Orb and get out of here. It seems that we went back in time, we have to get out of it, as soon as possible, and try to change as little as possible." Nice recovery, if I do say so myself. I breathed a silent sigh of relief. His face seemed to fall at that though, but we quickly brought back a smile on his face. Then, Natalie burst into the medical wing, and her eyes locked on us.

"Nat!" Jasper exclaimed. He seemed tired, he still needed more rest and was definitely, not fully recovered. "What is it?"

"I found it! I found the Time Orb!"

Alex : Okay... now she's gonna ship us even more! Thanks a lot!

Natalie : *Squeals* YOU TWO ARE THE ULTIMATE OTPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPPP

Jasper and Alex : NO WE ARE NOT!

Natalie : Awwwwww! They even talk at the same time!!!!!!!!!

Jasper and Alex : *facepalm*

Natalie : *smirks*
