Jasper's POV

"At least I still have the money. The guards did everything but search us." she pulled out the coins from her pocket.

"Well that's the only good thing right now. I'm still stuck in this jester suit!" he saw her stifle a laugh.

"You'll get out of it soon." she promised, when they heard footsteps coming toward them. They leaned on the cold metal bars and peered out into the hallway. Natalie was walking toward them, an annoyed look on her face.

"What did you do?" she asked, crossing her arms. She raised an eyebrow at them and waited for them to explain.

"First off, this was not my idea." Jasper said, and Alex agreed reluctantly.

"It was mine. But at least it worked!"

Natalie sighed. "The guard that brought you here said that you two will be in here until tomorrow, just so that it won't happen again."

"Great. A whole entire day of being stuck with her." Jasper pointed to Alex.

Natalie hid a smirk. Jasper knew what she was thinking. She was remembering that time in the woods, when he had admitted that he had a crush on Alex. He glared in her direction, but he knew she was still thinking about one thing.

Jalex.

Ever since he had told her that he liked Alex, she had talked to him non-stop about it when Alex wasn't there. She had wanted to know if Alex liked him back, if he had told her, and if she could tell Alex that he liked her. He had said no, of course, but that didn't mean that she stopped pestering him about it.

"At least we'll get out." Alex said.

"Yeah," Natalie agreed, "Now we wait until tomorrow."

----------SKIPPING TIME AGAIN----------

"You're free to go," a guard shoved them out of the jail cell, "just make sure it doesn't happen again."

He saw Alex raise an eyebrow at the guard. They were led out of the prison and left on the streets.

"I have the money. Let's go buy some blacksmith-y clothes for you." Alex grabbed his wrist and dragged him through the streets. They stopped at a stand that was selling clothing.

"Here there should be something. Come on," Alex pulled him through the crowd to look at the clothes.

----------TIME IS SKIPPING----------

They finished picking out clothing and he tried it on.

"In here." Alex gestured to a place where he could change.

He pulled the curtain closed and undressed, putting on the clothes they had found.

At least this isn't as bad as the jester outfit. He thought, and stepped out. He wore a brown tunic with a belt around the waist. He wore black pants and boots. A light brown cloak rested upon his shoulders. Alex smiled when she saw him.

"That looks good. Now take that off and we'll pay and get out of here."

----------TIME SEEMS TO SKIP A LOT HERE, DOESN'T IT?----------

They met up with Natalie at their room.

"You have the stuff?" she asked.

"Yup." he answered.

"Good. Now go and get a stall in the market and we'll get the staff."

----------WHY AM I SKIPPING TIME SO MUCH IN THIS CHAPTER----------

They wandered through the market, occasionally getting distracted and running off to look at the merchandise that was being sold. The sun was setting rapidly, and it shone in their eyes, making it hard to see. The swarms of people that had once clogged the streets were dissipating and only a few people were left. They had been searching for hours, trying to find someone that could point them in the right direction. Finally, once the sun had set and the lamps and candles were lit, they found the person that ran the market.

He tapped the person's shoulder and they turned around. The trio faced a tall, middle-aged man with a tangled beard and dusty clothes.

"What do you want?" he asked in a gruff voice that held the faintest bit of annoyance. "I'm trying to lock this place up."

"Sorry to bother you," Nat splayed her hands out in front of her. "But we were wondering if we could get a stall here. We would only be here for a day or two."

The man eyed them up and down. "You're kids."

"We're older than we look." Jasper said quickly, and the head of the market nodded slowly.

"If you're only going to have a stall for a few days, you need to pay when you get the stall. Usually, a third of your earnings would go to me, and I would take half of it for my family and I while the other half went to the castle. But," he drew out the word, "There are some occasions, like this one, where you pay me directly. Half of it will still go to the castle. Do you have money?"

"Yes." Alex pulled out the bag of coins from her pocket, and the man's eyes locked on it.

"How much do you have?"

She spilled a few coins into the palm of her hand. "Is this enough?"

The coins were taken from her hand and the manager told them that they had a stall. He led them down the cobbled walkway through the empty market and showed them to a small wooden stall.

"Here it is. Now, if you'll please exit the market, I need to finish locking up."

Natalie lead the way out of the market. They passed small cottages that were lit up by candles that flickered in the windows. Lamps in the street cast pools of light on the path, and their shadows clung to them like a small child would cling to its mother. No noise came from the cottages. That night, they slept in the streets.
