Alex's POV

I awoke to the sun shining in my eyes. Sitting up, I realized that I was the first one to wake. We had decided to not go back to the castle. We didn't want to risk getting thrown in their prison again. Last night we had chosen a relatively clean alleyway and quickly fell asleep once we settled down. I frowned. They hadn't woken me. I was supposed to keep watch after Natalie. Looking across the alleyway, I saw Jasper. He was leaning against the wall, his arms crossed over his chest. The sun reflected off his fluffy hair, giving it a golden glow. His chest rose up and down as he breathed, and his mouth was slightly open. I smirked as I watched him sleep, remembering yesterday's events. He had looked ridiculous.

"Watching him sleep? That's not creepy at all." the last word was drawn out.

I started at Natalie's voice. I had forgotten that she was on watch, since I hadn't been woken up. "You make it sound like I'm stalking him! And no, I just woke up. I haven't been just watching him!"

"Ha! So you were watching him!"

"Hey! I sat up and saw him! Also, you were supposed to wake me up for watch!"

She waved me away. "You were sleeping."

"You were too when Jasper woke you up!" I protested, when movement caught my eye. Jasper was awake.

"What about me?" he asked, his eyes still blurred with sleep.

Natalie and I turned to him. "Nothing," Nat said, "just talking about the watch shifts."

He frowned. "You didn't wake her?"

"Well... no..."

"Why?"

She waved him away as well. "She was sleeping. Anyway, today is when we go home."

----------WELP, IT IS CALLED TIMELESS AFTER ALL----------

The sun had risen high above our heads. Two hours ago, Jasper had departed to pose as a blacksmith and get the Time Orb. Now, Nat and I awaited his arrival.

"Are you sure there's nothing going on between you two?"

Now, don't get me wrong, Natalie was like a sister to me in many ways. We had grown up together and treated each other like siblings. But there are some things that we don't talk about.

I glared at her out of the corner of my eye. "I'm sure. Just drop it okay? It will never happen."

Jasper swung around the corner into the alleyway. He had shed the blacksmith attire and now wore his regular clothes. "What will never happen?" he breathed, leaning on the wall and catching his breath. At that moment, I was positive that my face was burning red.

"Did-did you get it?" I asked, wanting to change the subject as soon as possible.

"Uh, yeah. We need to leave now though." he eyed me, sensing that something was off. We formed a ring and Jasper held out the Time Orb in one hand. My eyes locked on it. It certainly looked like magic, no matter how much I didn't want it to be. We didn't know where it would take us, hopefully it would take us home, but who knew? We hadn't known what we were doing before, and I didn't know if there was something we needed to do for it to take us home. If it took us somewhere we didn't want to go we would have to find it again. I fingered the hilt of my sword. In the distance we could hear shouts from the guards. There were search parties looking for us. We could not be found and thrown into jail again. We had been away from our home for longer than ever before and we were ready to return to it. The past two weeks had been a whirlwind of action and activity. I thought back to the sickening feeling I had gotten when we had appeared in the arena, face-to-face with the beast. Then, I had been running purely on adrenaline and fear, not knowing if any of us would survive. Listening to the crowd cheer for the beast I had almost thought, This is it. This is the end, after so long. Then I thought, No. We will get out of this, somehow. Even though I hadn't known how we would escape, we had. And now we were going home, finally. Looking at the Time Orb I felt the same sickening feeling again. Somehow, I knew this wasn't the end of our adventures, if that was what you called them. I would hope though, that this was the end. This was the most action that had ever occurred in my life, and there would be plenty more. I didn't know where we would end up, but I knew that we wouldn't be home.

"You guys ready?" Jasper asked, though his voice sounded uncertain. He was probably having the same doubts I was having.

"I... don't know." Natalies voice trailed away, and she seemed lost in thought as well. Then, guards poured into our alleyway.

"Stop! You are under arrest for tyranny against the king! Surrender your belongings and come with us peacefully. That's the only way no one will get hurt." the lead guard yelled.

I turned to him. My friends later told me that I had a glint in my eye that had scared them.

"I don't think that's the only way."

Without knowing what I was doing, I raised my hands into the air. My fingertips flickered with an unknown light. Sparks shot from my fingers. I was later told that my eyes had glowed brighter and brighter. The guards shrunk back and hid behind their shields, their eyes narrowing in fear.

"Stop this! Wha-" the lead guard was cut off by me stretching out my hand toward him. Light shot out my palm and hit him in the heart, impaling him. He dropped to the ground, his eyes wide, caused by his last moments being full of fear.

I ran to Jasper and Nat.

"GO!" I half-screamed, and slammed Natalie's hand down on the Time Orb along with my own hand. We were immediately sucked into a pool of darkness, full of confusion and hope that we would end up someplace that wasn't about to kill us.
