"Oh my goodness," A thick accented voice calls through my shut lids, "I'm so glad we finally found you children."
My eyes open, and I have to say for the first time in my life I am glad to see my teacher standing before me. She looks concerned and the two girls that had gone with her to look for the door were cowering behind her.
"Oh god are we happy to see you!" Sam One says nearly falling to her knees with relief.
"Will one of you explain to me what is going on here? We are gone for five minutes and we return to absolute destruction. The students are all gone and there is a pair of gargoyles standing in the middle of the room, and they are moving!" Ms. Ciaster says frantically.
"Wait, you said they were just standing in the room? Was there anyone else standing there with them? A boy maybe?" I ask.
"I didn't see any boy standing in that room otherwise I would have tried to save him from those beasts." She says as if I insulted her.
I feel every muscle in my body go tense. If Kye wasn't with his monster gargoyles, then where was he? Was he following us, waiting to kidnap my new friends when I wasn't looking? Or was he off feeding on my classmates that he had kidnapped before? Either way, I know I would feel a little better knowing where he was.
"Does anyone want to explain to me what is going on?" Ms. Caister asks again.
"You wouldn't believe us if we told you..." Sam One says quietly.
"Oh yeah, why don't you try me?" It's obvious that she is getting angry.
"Fine, we are being stalked and hunted by a vampire named Kye," I say, my temper flaring, "He used his gargoyles to hunt down the other students and lock them who knows where. Now we are trying to find our way out of here before he kidnaps us. Do you believe us after hearing that?"
My teachers mouth opens in disbelief, but she quickly closes it and looks away from us. I don't blame her for not wanting to believe us. If someone had told me the same story and I hadn't seen all I had seen, I wouldn't believe them either.
"Not only that," Rebecca cut in, "But that vampire has a thing for Kat and wants to turn her into his vampire bride. Try believing that."
I shoot her an angry glare while the blood rushes to my face. The one thing I was really trying to do was keep the though of being Kye's bride as far from my mind as possible.
I honestly can't tell if Rebecca is trying to help us out or make fun of me, but either way I just wish she would shut up. The back of my neck is prickling just from the thought of Kye's lips, and fangs, getting so close to my neck.
"And why does this Kye want you?" Ms. Ciaster asks quietly.
I don't say anything so Sam Two speaks for me. "He said he wanted her because she is from a family of fire bending dragons. We don't know what that means, but he says that she has some sort of mark on her that links her to a family of dragons or something like that right?"
I nod but say nothing. The mark on my arm burns and I reach up reflexively to scratch at it. I notice then that everyone is staring at me, their eyes traveling to my arm hoping to catch a glimpse of the mark I had spent years trying to hide.
"You guys aren't seeing it!" I growl.
"Why not?" Rebecca asks.
"Because I don't like it when people stare at it. It makes me uncomfortable. I have never shown anyone, and I don't know how he found out about it." I say looking away slightly with embarrassment. The thought of Kye watching me when I had no shirt on was almost as disturbing as the thrills it gave me.
