The only thing I can see when I enter the room is me. A hundred me's all staring back with the same expression. And then a hundred Nana's step up beside me with a look that hints she is holding back laughter.
"A room of mirrors, how original." She drawls, running her finger along the reflective frame.
I marvel at the strange room. With so many me's and Nana's staring back I can't tell where the room starts or ends. It is a perfect trap if that's what Kye plans on doing with it.
"Okay, coming in here was obviously a very bad idea." Rebecca says as the others file in behind us.
Before anyone can move the door swings shut behind us. No one tries to open it again, we all know that it is locked. Instead we move into the center of the room, watching as the confused faces of our reflections stare back.
Then, the reflections all disappear at once. I know what comes next, but I am still surprised to see Kye appear in every mirror.
He is wearing an ice blue dress shirt with a black tie and black dress pants. His hair is disheveled into his eyes, looking like he brushed through it with his fingers after waking from a sleep. When he sees us staring his lashes come down shielding the amusement in his eyes. I want to slap that smug smile right off his face.
"Welcome to my home Gene." He says none too enthusiastically.
"You know my name? I guess I shouldn't be surprised seeing as how you've stalked my grand daughter for most of her life." Nana sneers.
This seems to strike a cord in Kye, as his fists clench and the mirrors around th room tremble. Nana is unfazed by this. She stands still as a statue watching as he comes to terms with his anger. When he finally calms down, Nana does not look impressed.
"Look here you old bat," He growls, "This is my home and I will not be insulted by the likes of you. You don't know anything about that matter and you'd be wise to keep your thoughts to yourself while staying here."
"Don't you dare speak to my Nana that way!" I yell stepping in front of her to shield her from Kye's words.
Surprisingly, his eyes soften. He calms down slightly, but I can still see the tension in his eyes. I just hope that I can keep him calm enough not to hurt Nana and the others.
"So why did you bring us to this room?" I ask carefully.
"I wanted to speak with you, and possibly give you another hint. We have a lot to speak about now that your grandmother is entering the game." He informs me.
"Okay, so talk." I say.
He chuckles slightly, his chest rising and falling. "I was hoping we could talk without so much company. We always have such nice conversations when we're alone don't we?"
His eyes are pleading with me, and because of the mirrors it is magnified a hundred times. My body wills me to say yes to him, but Nana is already speaking before the words can leave my mouth.
"There is no way you are taking my granddaughter anywhere without me. If you have something to say you can say it in front of the rest of us. What's the point of keeping secrets from the others in the first place?" She demands.
"Kat," He pleas, all of the eyes turning to me, "This is your choice. Just say the word and we can go anywhere you want, just the two of us, and finish our this conversation there. Just say the word and we can leave."
"Katherine, don't you even think about going with that crazy man." Nana says grabbing my hand in hers.
I think about it for a moment, trying to decide what the best option would be. On one hand, Nana is right, I can't trust Kye no matter what he says. But on the other hand I really need to know what Kye has to say. If he can give me a clue to where the others are then Nana and I can find them and get out of this crazy house.
