"Zak! Please it's me! I'm like a sister!" I cried, we were standing on opposite sides on the river in the chasm. "I wanted more." He growled, angry was in his eyes but behind it...heartbreak. "Zak I'm sorry." I plead, tears shown in my eyes. "Don't do this." I whispered.
He held his bow, right at my heart, in his hand and as he brought it back, fear flooded my veins. "Zak" I whisper.
I look down and find an arrow in my stomach, my blood leaking on the ground.
A cannon fired, waking me from the nightmare. Sweat was on my forehead but I soon huddled near the fire my teammates had. I heard loud pounding and looked outside, a curtain of rain so thick - I couldn't see past it.
I see the warm figure of Donnor next to me, fast asleep, snoring softly. Me, still panting, stood up and looked at the dying fire. It crackled softly and I silently put another piece of wood on the mountain of flames.
This may be a dessert but now, it was the tundra. Rain coming down like a wall, you can't see past. Freezing air. It may snow next...I huddled next to the fire and looked in our bags.
4 rolls, 5 apples, some beef and dried fruit.
Two canteens of water.
Some rope.
Donnor has a spear, probably stolen from the careers, And I have my bow and my knifes, so out weapons are good.
I looked out into the rain, Is Zak ok? Is Quinnlen ok? Is mom ok? Is Aplhie ok? Is dad ok? Is Travis ok? All I know is that I should be with Travis outside of a hospital room waiting to meet my little baby sibling.
Suddenly I heard a groan and turned to see Donnor opening his eyes. They landed on me and he smiled quietly, "Hey G." He mumbles.
"Hey D." I say back, I offer him an apple and he gratefully accepts.
"Why'd you come back?" He asks. "You weren't here when I woke up."
"I-I betrayed my alliance so I could save you." I whisper.
"No Allies huh?" He laughs.
"Hey, if it came down to it then I would have killed them!" I argued.
"Well," He puts his arm on my shoulder and I tense. "What about me? Will you ally with me?" He asks.
All I can do is nod, he smiles and starts roasting a piece of beef.
"What are you doing?" I ask, curious.
"The beef becomes grilled and losing the dryness when you roast it slowly." He explains.
"Cool! How'd you know that?" I ask.
"Well, when you were off training with Zak," I could here the pain in his voice as I looked down at my shoes, "I went to survival stations like dad suggested. So how did you know I was in trouble?" He asks.
"Guess Poseidon grandkids have special senses." I reply.
He gives me a skeptical look but nods. "So.." he stretched the word, "What Do you miss the most outside the Arena?" He asks.
"Midas. And mom is pregnant.." I say slowly.
"Katie's pregnant?" He asks. I nod slowly.
"What do you miss most?" I ask.
"Dad." He sighs longingly.
Nothing happened that day, just one cannon and more rain. At nights the dead projected in the sky.
Joey, Son of Apollo. District 10.
I snuggled next to Donnor - under his arm. "Cold out here right?" He asks. I shiver in his arms and nods. His comfort is warm, embracing me like a blanket yet all I can think about as I drift to sleep is Zak and Quinlenn.
I close my eyes to the sound...of a cannon.
