Ty was roused from his peaceful sleep by Lauren tossing and turning and talking in her sleep.
"Baby, no." She slurred, "no, my baby please."
Ty decided to wake her up. Her voice sounded too pained for him to just sit back and ignore it.
"Lo," he gently nudged her hoping she wouldn't be startled awake. "Lauren, wake up babe. You're dreaming. Babe?" She began stirring and he started caressing her head waiting for her to open her eyes and wake up.
Lauren opened her bleary eyes feeling confused as soon as she saw Ty she she realized where she was and she felt safe.
"Ugh, I keep having these stupid fucking dreams." She whined.
"The one where you can't find the baby?"
"Yeah," Lauren sighed, "I hadn't had one since the day before the hospital. I thought they were gone." She pouted, hating that they had returned.
"Maybe it's because we're telling your parents tonight?" Ty suggested.
Lauren had asked her parents to come to LA after her and Ty agreed on a story about how this had come to be. They were going to say that they began quietly dating six months ago and the pregnancy just happened. It wasn't a complete lie. Plus, it's not like Lauren had the luxury of time. She was 13 weeks along and her clothes were getting tighter fast. She wasn't going to be able to hide the proof of her pending new addition from the outside world for much longer. Fifth Harmony would be touring Europe for two weeks in four short days. Lauren was terrified of being outed before she was ready but she felt like she had no time and no choice.
The young pregnant girl was definitely not looking forward to coming clean about her situation to the label and her bosses. But before she told the powers that be she had to break it to the girls she had come to love as sisters. Lauren would feel terrible if they were to find out she was having a child from anyone else but herself.
But even before telling the girls and the bosses she had to tackle the challenge of telling her family. And that was such a terrifying concept that Lauren couldn't quite wrap her mind around it. She was flying completely blind into this. Lauren was always a relatively well behaved kid growing up, aside from her smart mouthed arguments. Up until now Lauren was the unproblematic daughter that had never fucked up this royally before.
Clara and Mike Jauregui had never before had any reason to fear unplanned pregnancy when it came to their eldest daughter. When she was a teenager her doctor recommended she be put on birth control for period pains. Lauren had also spent a lot of time in an on and off romance with a woman, much to her parents chagrin. Never once did the subject of an unplanned pregnancy come up in her life. Even though they were an open family Lauren could tell this talk with her parents and Ty was going to be so weird and awkward.
"Babe, come on they can't be mad at you forever. Think positive, they might even be a little happy like my momma was."
They had decided Ty's family would be easier to break the news to first. Lauren figured it would be a good practice round before facing her family. She was completely taken by surprise that Ty's mom, Phyllis, was filled with joy at the news that her first grandchild was on the way. Phyllis had taken to Lauren so well that she insisted she call her mom and that Ty bring her over for dinner on a regular basis.
Lauren smiled at the memory of Ty's familys kindness and excitement, "I love your mom."
"Me too," Ty laughed, "I really thought she was gonna go off on me when we told her about the baby."
He noticed Lauren's look of concern, "I knew she'd love you Lo, there was no doubt about that. I mean I thought she was going to cuss me out because she was thinking I never brought my pregnant girlfriend home for six months and I honestly didn't know how she'd feel that you weren't black. She kinda old school and she was always talkin' to me bout finding a good black woman and settling down."
