The dragon laid against the large tree, the grass around her was vibrant and full of life much like the child that played next to her. The dragon looked as if she was made out of roots, shrubs and brightly colored flowers. She had large horn like branches that grew from her head like antlers, covered in flowers and leaves from start to finish. She was quite beautiful, even though the creature was old and would creak when she moved even the slightest, she had found peace in the child's company. She let out a deep hum while the young child ran after a butterfly, the butterfly was always just beyond the girl's delicate reach. The dragon moved her head to see better, the loud creaking of wood echoed through the lush forest when she moved. The dragon smiled, seeing the child in one of her happiest moments when she managed to catch the butterfly. As soon as her smile appeared it faded, she had a dark thought looming over her for some time now that she would have to pass to the young girl eventually.

She decided now would be that time.

"(Y/n)." The dragon said, her voice was soft yet brittle like an everyday old women. The girl released the butterfly, giving a chuckle as it tickled her hand before it departed perhaps forever. She ran over to the dragon then sat, the dragon had laid her head in the girl's lap as the girl began to play with the flowers that adorned the dragon's horns, she never rested her head there fully since she would crush the poor thing. The large creature possessed a seriousness that the girl hadn't noticed, throughout all the years they had lived together the girl was not yet accustomed to this seriousness the air held so she paid no mind to it. The dragon's pale eyes were directed to the girl when she lifted her head, she would need to tell her now before she would succumb to the fear of upsetting the girl. "Child...I have shown you all I know and can no longer teach you, your skill will flourish as you grow and so will your beauty, just like the forest." The creature said, only confusing the child.

"What are you talking about Morindala?" The girl questioned. The dragon had never gone into a conversation like this before and it sparked a small amount of fear in her. Morindala had always been kind to the child, she had raised her and taught her how to use magic similar to what she herself possessed. She noticed how the child learned so quickly and she felt she had taught her everything she could on her own.

"I am dying (Y/n)." Morindala said bluntly, she hadn't known how to break it to the girl easily since the girl would possibly not understand. (Y/n) had a sudden look of fear, she had grown up with the guidance of this dragon now she is to be alone. She wasn't prepared for this and it gave her a sharp cold pain in her chest, she didn't want to accept the news but she did knowing there was nothing she could do. The girl began to cry, her tears shattered the old dragon's heart. Morindala never wanted to leave the girl but she always knew she couldn't stay, she realized this when she began to feel the pain of old age. Her wood was cracked, some of her flowers and shrubbery dead, she wouldn't last another season. What she would ask of the girl next would possibly shatter the girl into pieces.

"Child...Use what I've taught you and take my power so I may protect you in death." The dragon said, her tone was serious and still calm. She had accepted her fate long ago and she would pledge her life to protect this young girl even after she had passed on.

"No, please don't make me do that! We...We can just wait and see, maybe you'll get better!" She whimpered and sobbed through her protest. Morindala knew she knew that she would not get better, she explained to the girl many times that everything comes to an end and everything must die eventually.

"You cannot cure old age." The dragon said, resting her head in the girls lap once again.

"I can't do it..." The girl sobbed.

"You can and you will, I taught you to take on this burden now do it." The dragon was done with the girls protest. This was how it had to be, there was no alternative or other way. She would die today, she had felt it in the wind earlier and she wanted her power to go to the girl she considered a daughter.

After a little more crying the girl hugged the dragon's large head, the dragon let out a hum and closed her eyes and she enjoyed the embrace she would never feel again. "Okay...I love you Morindala." The girl muttered, her tears falling onto the dragon. Once the embrace was finished she placed her hands on top of Morindala's head.

"I will always be with you, with each gust of wind and eat bloom of a flower. You will carry my power with you and you'll never be alone, I promise you this (Y/n)." The dragon's voice was shaky for once, she was saddened to see the sweet girl like this but knew this was it.

"Goodbye Morindala..." The girl said then cast her spell.

The dragon's body had become lifeless, the flowers and shrubbery dead and the wood corroded. The power the dragon possessed fell upon the girl, she felt the energy jump into her smaller form. It was almost too much for her to handle but she endured it. Once she recovered and all was still, the body of Morindala had begun to vanish. The wood that covered her rooted into the earth as the flowers and shrubbery blew away in the wind. The outline of the dragon was visible but not very, she was part of the forest now. The forest itself was less lush and green, the spring dragon that helped it grow was no longer there to look after it and the forest knew that.

The girl stayed beside the rooted body of her adopted mother, her small hand sitting over the wood. She had run out of tears to cry, she was now tired and lonely. It wasn't long before someone had found her.

"Oh my...Child did you do this?" A small old man asked. He then stood beside her, almost level with her since he was so small. She only nodded, tracing her hand over the wood that covered the dragon. The man had been able to find her from the immense sense of power she gave off, it was strong and would be dangerous if she didn't get proper guidance. "Do you have any place to go?" He asked then she shook her head 'no.'

"Then come with me my dear, I am Makarov. You'll be safe with me." He said and offered his hand out to the girl. She looked at him, he was small and looked kind enough. She trusted him then grabbed his hand, pulling her up.

"Would you like to join Fairy Tail?"
