"Hello Katherine. I'm glad you came." Aro said and I nodded, stepping forward to the center of the room. He comes off of his throne.
"Well I wouldn't miss a chance to see the Volturi." I said, showing off my hazel eyes.
Caius gave a sneer but Marcus cut in "It's been quite awhile. I see you have adopted the vegetarian lifestyle.". I turn to gaze from Aro to Marcus and nod once again.
Caius blurts out rudely "I'm surprised you didn't bring a herd of deer with you. We don't have any here." and I narrow my eyes at him but stay silent.
"Settle down Caius. Katherine is our guest." Aro calms him but secretly orders him. The blonde was practically seething in his seat but Aro continues "The change has gifted you, by chance dear?".
He walk forward holds out his hand. I set my hand into his, allowing him to read my mind. "The gift of seeing when someone is truthful." he announced and I saw Caius shift.
"Shouldn't we test it?" Caius questioned and Aro looked back at him. Aro turned his gaze back at me and arched an eyebrow.
"I think that's an excellent idea." Aro says before asking "If it's alright with you?". I smile and nod willing to show off my abilities.
"Alec bring a human." Marcus orders, and within five minute he had brought one back. But she was sobbing. I felt sympathy but figured she would be used as food anyway.
Alec was gripping her arm, and held her in front of me, both of us sideways so the three leaders could see. Aro had sat back down. I looked at Alec who only stared back at me.
I refocused on the woman. Aro spoke up "Did you come from the dungeons?" and the girl shook her head.
"Speak up." Alec ordered, shaking her a bit. I held a hand out stopping him. I grabbed her chin softly, making her look at me but she only cried more.
She opened her eyes and saw mine were hazel and took a breath but still cried.
She was obviously confused, considering I was the only person she saw without red eyes. "I just want you to tell a few lies and a few truths and then you can go." I lie to her. I knew she wouldn't be let free.
She nodded again. "Will you stay still if Alec lets you go?" I ask and this time she speaks.
In a wobbly voice she answers, "Yes." but there was a sob halfway through. She was telling the truth however.
"Let her go. She'll stay still." I tell Alec who looks to Aro. He waves a hand, ordering Alec to let go. "Now I want you to tell me about yourself. But I want a few to be truths and a few to be lies. Can you do that?" I ask and she nods.
She says "Yes." urgently, realizing she was supposed to speak. I give her a soft smile. I gesture for her to say something and she stutters out "My parents are both alive. I'm here on a trip with my brother. I come here once every few years. People are waiting for me back at home. I have a daughter who just started kindergarten waiting for me." She pauses before begging "Please let me go." and I decipher it all. My eyes flicker back and forth, gazing at her tears green eyes.
"Well?" Aro asks patiently and I walk around the woman. Picking up a piece of her hair, it was soft. I faced her, my back to the door, and my front facing her and the Volturi.
I turn to Aro and begin to expose her statements. "Her parents are both alive. She was telling the truth about that. She does come here every few years. She is not here with her brother and she doesn't have a daughter in kindergarten. Or a daughter at all." I say and she starts to sob again. She was trying to use sympathy to get free.
Her body begins to sag as I tell what I saw, proving that there is no one waiting for her. "Please let me go now. I did what you want." she cries, practically shaking to death. But Aro rises and uses his speed to get to her.
"Is she correct?" he confirms and the lady nods once again. He sets a hand on her arm. Confirming it himself. "Magnificent." he murmurs.
He offers her to me me, Alec watching me as he stands closely to the woman. "If you would like, you may have her." He pushes her hair behind her shoulder, leaving her neck open.
"Actually I have a proposition for you." I say and he looks at me, his interest peaked. He gestures for me to go on. "I'd like to join the Volturi. The Cullens do not need me at the moment." I say, flashbacks going through my head about attacking Bella.
"We'd love for you to join us. If you take the girl." he offered, the sobbing woman sputtered for air. Sounding like she was having a panic attack.
I go to her, setting a hand on her arm. "You'll be alright. I won't let anyone hurt you okay?" and Caius even sat up, looking infuriated. But as he was about to speak, I held a hand out for the woman to take, and as she took it, I pulled her in closer and set my mouth on her neck.
She gasped, short breaths coming out and she squirmed in pain. The fresh blood seeped into my mouth. It was breathtaking. I closed my eyes, and fed until I could get no more. It didn't take long. I pulled back, eyes still closed and I heard the body drop.
I opened my eyes, finding Aro who had gotten back to his seat. Caius was sitting once again and I looked at them with my red eyes. I could feel the new color filling my eyes, golden turning red.
"Offer accepted." I accepted, wiping a drop of blood that had fallen from my mouth.
Aro welcomed me "Welcome to the Volturi.".
