The next day Kelli woke up on the bottom bunk of Abby's bed. The rest of last night was a blur. Kelli thinks she had more then one drink, as she rubbed her head. She sat up and noticed a boy sleeping on the floor....with Abby...and that boy, was her brother. Ew ew ew ew ew. As Kelli stepped over her brother, she tripped on a beer can and woke him and Abby up. " nothing happened Kells, don't worry." Brian said to her. He got up, grabbed his change of clothes and left. She said goodbye to Abby and left as well. As she was riding her bike home, she took out her phone and called Nick. "Sup?" He answered. "Uh hi, it's me, Kelli. You have today to get me to like you, remember?" She heard another girl in the back speak, "Who is is Nick?" She was obviously not his mom. " Um yea. Meet me at Lagoon beach at noon." He said as he hung up.
At noon Kelli was sitting on the rocks with her beach bag on the sand. She didn't know what to expect. maybe this will go well.. she looked up and saw a boy in a white tee shirt and sky blue swimsuit bottoms. "Well hello stranger." Kelli said hopping off of the rocks. Nick let out his hand to help her down. Kelli didn't need it. " I brought some food and a blanket for us to sit on." "Do you do this for other girls too?" She asked. "I've never met a girl as stubborn as you, so no." He said, smiling that amazing smile. "So Kelli, tell me a little bit about yourself." "Ok, but only if you tell me something about you." She said. "deal." He smirked. "Ok, so I just moved here from Arizona, I have two brothers, a best friend named Abby, and a you, who is irrelevant." She said, looking at him. "Wow, okay then. I'm Nick Castello, I'm 17, I've lived here all my life, my father is the principal at Hampton High, and I met a beautiful girl yesterday." He said back, smiling as he looked at how the sun made her skin glow. " Do you surf?" She asked, knowing the answer. "Hell yea I do." He said. "Come" She said, pulling him towards a board rental. "Two boards please." She said. "How long?" The rental lady asked. "An hour." She said, looking back at Nick. He was amazed at how good she looked.
Swimming out, they asked more questions about each other. Kelli said a lot more then she wanted to, but so did Nick, she didn't think he was a bad person anymore. "So,how do you think the date is going?" He asked. "This is a date?" Kelli asked paddling faster and splashing under a wave. She took off swishing over the waves. Nick followed, amazed at how good she was. "Who taught you?" He asked. "My grandpa. He owns that yellow shop down in town." She said. "What about you?" "My dad taught me when I was young. He was an incredible surfer." "Ahhh..Mr.Castello." Kelli said. Just then, something interrupted their "date". "Is that your brother with Abby?" Nick asked, pointing to her brother and Abby sitting on the beach laughing. "Oh my god. It is." Kelli said. "I woke up this morning and he was on the floor and then he said that nothing happened but clearly something happened. Should I ask them?" "I don't think that's the best idea right now. Let's just focus on this." he said, grabbing her shoulders and pulling her and her board close to him. He leaned in and Kelli noticed, splashing him and saying "race ya back!" She paddled away, feeling bad.
"Let's walk down town to find something to eat." Kelli said. Picking up her bag she headed for her bike. "Uh, I can pick it up after." She said taking Nicks hand and pulling him towards the shop. She went in and noticed her grandpa sanding the boards. "Hey grandpa." She said, skipping over to the man and kissing him on the cheek. Nick was off to the left of the shop checking out the shirts and pants. "Who's the boy you have with you?" He said. "Oh it's just Nick Castello. You know Mr.Castello right? It's his son." Overhearing the convo Nick came over. "Everyone knows my dad..." he said. "Ahh yes, what a good surfer." Kelli's grandpa replied.
Kelli grabbed a coupon for Randy's fish house and left with Nick.
Going inside, she sat down and opened the menu and then closed it. She ordered for nick and her. "Ok, are you in a rush?" He asked. "No she said. They just don't like people like you here." She said, biting a French fri.
After lunch, Kelli and Nick went outside. He stopped her, grabbed her by the waist, then put his hands on her face and kissed her. Kelli kissed back. She pulled away after and he smiled. "Does this mean you don't hate me?" He said. "Oh I still dont like you. I just don't dislike you as much as before." She winked. "I'll take it." He said. They walked a little more before arriving back at the beach. Her brother and Abby weren't there anymore.
"This was fun." He said. "I've never actually wanted to go on a real date before. But I'm not sure this counts. We can try again next weekend if you'd like?" He said. "Fine." Kelli replied. "We are just friends for now though." Nick didn't want to stay friends forever. She was too special.
