Back on Atlantis, John was leaned against a table, watching as Rodney prepped to drop one of their newly acquired ZPMs into its rightful place. "So, having three more of these things is pretty significant. We will have two, Earth will have two, maybe the Daedalus gets the third?" The scientist shook his head "Honestly if both ends have one I feel like giving the Daedalus one will just be kinda redundant. I mean, sure they could get back and forth a lot faster, but we can just use the gates. If for whatever reason we need them to get here sooner, we send the extra through the Stargate to Earth, and they get on their way." He explained as he stepped back. "I guess I can agree to that one." As much as he did detest having to agree with Mckay, it only seemed to feed his ego. "Okay, there we go." He said as the stained-glass generator sank into the terminal. A low hum starting as it began to power up. "Nothing seems to be going wrong; things read fine. Perfect, now I can move on to my next project." He said as he turned to gather his things.
"What might that be?" John asked as he leaned back up to walk after Rodney. "Find out more about our new friends." A puzzled expression moved over John's face, "You mean Forrest and Cas?" "Yes, I feel like there is much more to her people than she is letting on, or knows." He explained as they walked down the corridor. "What makes you say that?" "Oh I don't know, she is mind-melded to a giant flying lizard, that is strange enough. Carson would probably have that explained by now if you two had not spent the past week bickering." He rolled his eyes, "Plus, their written language is the closest to Ancient that we have come across yet. The planet must have been something to them. So, with any luck, we can find something in the database with a little bit of digging" "Yeah well I stand by my argument that they would be valuable in the field. Find me something that proves that" "There is not always a military use for things." "I don't care; they would be more useful than anything here in the field." "Do you think I am that stupid, Forrest is pretty much useless in the field. No military or combat training at all. At least Carson can hit something with a gun. Castiel is the only one useful to you." John paused, his stride breaking before moving again, "Well, okay yeah maybe you are right but still! Amazing potential. Just one dragon, all it would take. Imagine one of them going after a ground party of Wraith! You were too busy trying to hang on to Malco to see Dazar ripping people in half." "I don't think I really needed to see that, but yes, they would be nice in combat situations." "So find me proof of that." The scientist said nothing, the pair walking into the gate room. Above on the balcony was Castiel. Sitting contently looking at the gate as he waited for her return. "Honestly, I should have just told Tayla to get over him going; he has not moved in two hours." Rodney looking at the dragon nervously. "Yeah, I still am a bit creeped out by him. His eyes are too human." Taking the stairs two at a time, John walked over to where the dragon sat. "They should be another hour or two, don't worry too much." He said, the dragon turning to look at him. Picking up one of the tablets that they provided him, the dragon wrote his response quickly. "I understand, but it is a habit. We have never been separated like this." In the first week, between Carson and himself, they had managed to teach the dragon how to write in English. He had learned incredibly fast and left them wholly sure the dragon was smarter than they were. It only made Rodney more nervous, and Ronon more worried the pair could be planning something.
"I'll talk to you later." Rodney turning away from them and walking off to the control terminals. John walking to stand next to Castiel. "I have not really gotten a chance to talk to you, or Forrest really for that matter. So, can you like sense her right now?" He asked curiously. Castiel shook his head, quickly writing again, ' when she stepped through the gate, our connection was cut off. We have never experienced this kind of disconnect.' He sighed, "I should have just let you go with. You can get small enough they would not have noticed you." The dragon shook his head, 'I understood the need.' He found it strange, sitting here having a full conversation with a mute dragon. "So, how long really have you and Forrest been bonded, I mean I get it has been a while and all, but when did you bond?" His curiosity getting the better of him. The dragon seemed to smile, as he began to write once again; ' I bonded to Forrest when she was two years old. I have been with her ever since.' It was interesting to imagine, a small child bonding to a dragon. 'It is the reason Forrest knows as much as she does. I had ten years of studying and learning when we bonded. At that young of an age teaching her things was not difficult.' It astounded him the way the dragon explained it, but half the time talking to him left him with more questions than answers. "Well, next time you will be going. Locals can get over not liking you." The dragon turned, his head level to John's 'I have already caused conflict with your own people have I not? I do apologize for that.' The Colonel shaking his head, "You don't need to keep apologizing for that, both of you. It happens every time someone new comes to the city. People will come around." He paused, then smiled. "You don't need to wait here for them, come on I want to show you something." He said as the dragon looked at him and nodded his head reluctantly. Shrinking down small and jumping onto his shoulders. "There we go, you are gunna get a kick out of this." He said before walking out the gate room, Rodney shaking his head as he watched them leave.
