*1 month later*
*Sam's POV*

Well, she still hasn't come back to us yet. Jack, Bella, and I have been visiting her every single day. Bella was able to go home with us after spending a week in the NICU. Jack and I have been doing pretty good with the whole newborn baby thing. I just wish Alyssa could be here to experience it too. I know Bella misses her mom. But I'm sure Alyssa misses her daughter even more. I can tell Alyssa can hear us because the other day I was holding her hand and I felt her squeeze it a little. Jack said the same thing. That's why her parents have agreed not to pull the plug yet. The doctor said there's a good chance that she can wake up any day now. So that's why we continue to come sit here, every day, and spend all day, just waiting for her to wake up.

"Okay baby, time for a nap" Jack says as he places Bella down into the pac-n-play.
He's really stepped up this past month. I haven't seen Madison around at all and I haven't heard him talk to her on the phone either. Hell the poor guy hasn't even left the house. Neither one of us have been able to. We can't. We've got a kid to take care of!
All of a sudden I'm snapped out of my thoughts by the monitors beeping.

"What the hell is going on?" Jack whisper-yells to me.

"I don't know. I'll go get the nurse" I whisper-yell back.

"Katy you've gotta get in here something's happening" I yell to Katy as I see her down the hall.

Just as I rush back into the room, Jack motions for me to come sit by him and Alyssa.

"What the hell are you doing? We can't just sit here we have to do something!" I yell at him.

"Sam, look at her eyes." "Hello gorgeous" he says to her as I look into her eyes and realize she's opened them.
Oh my god. She's awake.
Tears start falling out of her eyes and she grabs both mine and Jack's hands and interlocks them with hers.

"She's awake!" the nurse says as she comes in.

"Okay Alyssa we're going to slowly take these tubes out of you 1 by 1. So bare with us okay? Boys I'm going to need you to give us some space to work here" another nurse says as she walks up to Alyssa.

Jack and I both step to the side. We watch as they slowly remove the tubes that were once keeping her alive. This is the moment we've been waiting for. The moment we find out if our Alyssa is back for good.
It feels like it's been hours but it's only been a few minutes. Jack had to grab Bella because she started crying with all of the noise and people coming and going. But it was weird, Bella stopped crying as soon as Jack had her look at her mother laying there in that bed, this time without the tubes. She just kept staring at her. Like she knew that was who she had been missing all this time. If she can feel that way about her mother, there's no way Jack can leave them now. Bella will be heartbroken.

"I..." Alyssa tries to speak but she can't. She has no voice thanks to the tubes in her throat.

"Hold on now, let's get you some water. We need to run a few tests first before we can just leave you alone. I know you're excited to be awake right now and see everyone but we still have some concerns" the nurse reassures her.

Alyssa just nods her head.
I guess that's a good sign! I mean if she's nodding her head, clearly her brain is functioning.
The doctor's and nurses wheel her out of the room and up to the testing floor to complete the tests. They tell us they'll be back in a few hours.
So now we have to just sit here again and wait. This wait feels like it's going to be the longest.

As the time goes by, Jack and I take turns feeding and changing Bella. I just wish her mom would come back and see her beautiful baby already. She's already missed a whole month of her life. I hope these tests come back with good results.
