    It all happened so fast

Scott stayed over at our house on Christmas Eve and we had all been talking for hours. The Christmas tree lit up the whole room, presents gleaming underneath it, as we laid on the floor. Steph had made cookies earlier, and even though they were long gone you could still smell them in the air.

The area between the couch and tv was a complete mess of pillows, couch cushions, and blankets in what will always be considered the coziest area of all time. It was like Scott had been our friend since we were kids with how close we all were. The TV occasionally lighting up and growing darker as we played old episodes of  Spongebob. The volume was up high, but we still managed to talk over it.

Eventually, through all the Christmas hype, Steph and Alicia fell asleep. Scott and I stayed up longer talking about whatever we pleased. Then I did it.

"You know Scott, I really love hanging out with you," I said, delirious from happiness and lack of sleep. He nodded and looked at the tree, saying, "Yea, well I figure I have to be entertaining, you did lure me in with a Tumblr meme after all." I laughed to my self about that. "I really didn't think you knew, but I'm kinda glad you do," I told him.

He looked at me and smiled. "I mean, those prompts are cute, but you know what would be cuter?" He leaned in. I felt my face heat up, so I looked over to the tv and pretended to be interested in what was on it. "What," I asked, genuinely dying to hear what he was going to say.

     "Us."

I looked at him in shock. He was smiling and I shook my head, before saying that he's not wrong. We looked at each other for a while before leaning in and.. not kissing. The Tv yelled out something about Squidward and I fell back laughing, ruining the moment. "But for real," I said. "If you want to go out or something I'm totally down for it." He nodded and said that he'd like that.

So like.. I think we're a thing now? I don't really know. It's 5 days later and all I know is that that's what happened and I am now sitting in my room with the door locked, trying to figure out what to write. I do not want to write another romance novel. The more I thought about it, the lamer it became. Like wow, another story about two people falling in love? With the exact plot as ever other love story? With the happy ending that renders all other bad things that have happened in the story completely irrelevant?! No thanks!

I wrote my first book on Steph and Alicia, but also turned it into this super good sci-fi thing. The cars were replaced with dragons and Steph's homophobic mom became an evil witch. It was touching, but it's not what I want right now.

I heard my phone buzz, and quickly grabbed it. It was Scott, of course. "Happy New Years!.. eve. Come to the Alley!" I stared at the message for a few minutes before deciding that I need out of the house. After Christmas I locked myself inside because I really do need to do something with my book. It's New Years though, and I figured I could take a break.

Alicia and Steph were asleep on the couch with the dog, a little English lab named Harley. He's adorable honestly. Fighting the urge to walk over and pet him, I went out the door. I hope the girls wake up soon, it's already almost 11, and it would suck if they missed midnight.

When I finally reached the alleyway Scott had shown me only weeks before, I realized it was far more beautiful than I remembered. Fairy lights lit it up in the dark and the paint on the walls reflected different colors making this the most beautiful area I've ever seen. I saw Scott leaning against a wall and went up to him.

He smiled and said, "sup Iris, didn't think you'd come." I leaned into the wall to get closer to him before saying, "well it's not like I could've  welcomed 2018 by myself." He laughed and shook his head. We continued bantering back and forth until he pulled out a countdown. I hadn't even realized it had been that long of us just being out here talking. "30 seconds till 2018," he said. We watched the clock together and then started counting down together.

"Ten
Nine
Eight
Seven
Six
Five
Four
Three
Two
One"

He looked at me and smiled. "Happy new year!" I squealed, leaning in. And can you guess what happened next? Heck yea, we kissed. It's at this point in the movie that the camera pans up and you see all the fireworks going off in the sky so like.. pretend that's happening now.
