"Can you please stop leaving toothpaste in the sink?" She says, for what felt like the millionth time.

"Only if you turn off the fan tonight so i'm not freezing to death while we sleep." He replies.

She jerks her head up at him, ready for a snippy response if needed. When she makes eye contact with him, she notices the twinkle of amusement in his eyes.

He raises an eyebrow and smiles. "Of course I will, Pluto. Anything for my little planet." He plants a soft kiss on her forehead before walking over to the sink and rinsing out the left behind toothpaste.

A small smile finds it way to her face. "We're leaving in ten minutes. You better be ready."

"Yes, ma'am."

She storms through the door throwing her purse on the couch before turning around and crossing her arms. He comes storming in after her, slamming the door behind him and throwing the keys to the side, not caring where they landed.

"You didn't have to make a big scene." He says.

"Excuse me?! I did not make a scene. You're the one who made a damn scene when you brought up Lucas... again! How many times do I have to tell you, we work together! There's nothing else going on!"

"Yeah, well, Riley, you keep saying that but you can never explain to me why you have lunch with him every single day."

"We work together! He's the only person I know there. Who else would you have me have lunch with?"

"How about someone you didn't date in the past."

"The relationship Lucas and I had can hardly be called dating. We broke up when we thought I was moving to London and then never officially got back together. What does that say? And besides, I chose you when I didn't have to, so-"

"Wow, you really know how to make a guy feel special, don't you?" He says, throwing his hands up in the air.

"What is your problem, tonight? Why couldn't we just have a nice dinner out?"

"Why can't you have lunch with someone else?"

"Why cant you trust me?!" She screams. He goes silent. "What have I ever done to make you not trust me? Hm? Please, give me some reason because I honestly can't think of one."

He sighs and runs his hand through his hair. "I spent so many years, silently competing with Lucas, all for you. I always wanted you. Now I have you and... and I just wouldn't be able to stand losing him to you. Not again." His voice is soft, but that has no effect on her anger.

"I'm not some prize for you to win, Farkle! You can't make my decisions for me!"

"I know that!"

"Then stop treating me like a piece of property! I'm not one of your little science experiments that you get to manipulate until you get the result you want! I'm so sick and tired of this coming back up over and over again!" She puts her head in her hands before looking back up at him. "Why can't we just be happy? Why does every little thing have to get in the way? There used to be a time where nothing got in the way, when we could get through anything. But ever since we became a couple, since we started living together, it seems like we only drift farther apart then come closer together."

"Riley-"

"I want to love you. But the Farkle Minkus standing before me is not the Farkle Minkus I fell in love with. The Farkle Minkus who was always there for me, listened to me, paid attention and remembered the little things, and trusted me, had faith in me. I don't see that anymore."

He stands silently, unable to find any words to respond.

"I think we should take a break."

He's snapped out of his silent trance. "What did you say?"

She sighs and bites her lip. "I think a break would be good for us. We can take some time apart-"

He rushes towards her, putting his hands on her shoulders. "No, no, no, no, no! Breaks never work! Breaks always turn into break ups. I couldn't deal with that."

She steps back, forcing Farkle's arms to fall to his sides. "We need to take a break. I-I can go stay with Maya. She has an extra room-"

"No, absolutely not. If... if you really want a break, I'll go. My family has a vacation home nearby that I can stay at. I wont force you out."

She looks down at the ground. "Thank you."

"I, uh, I guess i'll go pack." He starts walking towards the bedroom.

"Do you need any help?" She asks, her voice breaking.

"No, I, uh, I got it. Thanks."

It takes him about an hour to pack his things. Riley tells him he doesn't need to take everything, it's only a break and he'll be back someday. Despite her protests, he still takes everything, leaving no trace of him living there. He takes all of his belongings to his car, coming back to give Riley the key.

"You don't need to give this back. I told you, it's just a break." She says.

"It'll be too tempting to come back. It's better if I just give it to you."

She takes the key with a sad smile.

He starts walking away but pauses and turns back.

"I want you to know that I still love you. I still love you as much as I did back in first grade."

"I know."

Being able to bear it no longer, Farkle takes Riley in his arms and kisses her hard and passionately, wanting their last kiss to be memorable.

He pulls away and walks away quickly, without looking back.

Riley watches him leave, her fingers brushing her lips to remember how they felt against his for the last time. When he disappears, she closes the door. Leaning against it, she slides down to the floor, tears streaming down her face as she prays that she didn't make the worst mistake of her life.
