"Look, girls, she's at it again. God! So annoying!" I heard someone sneer and it got me a bit curious. A group of girls was blatantly badmouthing someone and clearly wanted to be noticed. "Acting all innocent and demure. Ha! Who's she kidding?"

I was about to shrug it off and be on my way to buy myself some snacks. But when I saw who they were smirking at, I immediately felt my blood boil. Although I don't know the girl personally, I knew she doesn't deserve to be treated that way.

Julia and her friend was eating at another table and it's impossible for them not to have heard any of it. Her friend was already shooting daggers at them but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

With determination I brought out my phone and rang Jake's number; a plan started kicking in. And as I walked passed the group of girls, I said sarcastically. "Yeah, you know what I hate? Insecure girls who thinks they have this some kind of authority over people. But in reality...they are the ones who's just as PATHETIC. You know, that dirt under the pyramid?"

I heard them gasp.

"Hey, what's your problem?" One of the girls asked, irritated.

"Oh!" I flipped my hair back to glance in their direction; my killer raised eyebrow already in position. Then with a laugh I asked, "Guilty much?"

How funny their shocked faces were.

"I was just talking to the phone." I faked a smile and showed them my phone that I'm indeed talking to someone. Then ended the call and proceeded to walk out.

...

When I bought the snacks that I wanted, I turned around and found myself face to face with Julia and her friend.

"Hi, I'm Anne, and this is Julia," introduced Anne, her long ponytail bouncing from excitement. "What you did back there? So cool!"

"Yeah, I can't thank you enough." Julia smiled gratefully.

"Nah, that's ok," I laughed. "I'm Mia, by the way."

"Hi Mia," chirped Anne with a small wave. "Would you like to join us for recess?"

"Thanks, but probably next time? I promised to be with my friends today." I said apologetically, nodding at the table where Joshua and Jake are seated.

Their eyes followed mine and saw them.

Anne nodded with understanding "Oh, yeah. With your boyfriend, Joshua."

Wait. What?

"Whoa--. Boyfriend?" I asked in case I heard it wrong.

Anne nodded. "Weren't you the guys who were lovey dovey in the grounds before?"

Julia elbowed her to stop, her eyes bulging. "Sorry. Sometimes Anne has no filter and---"

I was already in histerics and was not able to hear Julia's explanation. Wiping my tears from all the laughing, I said. "Look, he's not my boyfriend. I swear. We're all just friends."

"Oh." Was both their answers, their cheeks a bit red.

...

I was still laughing when I reached our table. "You guys, this is so darn funny. You know Julia and Anne?"

Joshua stopped his spoon mid-air at the mention of Julia's name; his food completely forgotten. "What about her?"

"They thought..." A dramatic pause. "You and I are together!"

"Like in a relationship!" I tried to catch my breath from laughing too much.

Jake spat out his food. "What?!"

"I know right?" I snorted a laugh.

"Wow, you seemed ecstatic." Jake said, deadpanned.

"But you said 'No', right?" Joshua pleaded. "You said 'No'?"

"Oh, way to friendzone someone, Josh." I punched his arms and kept repeating it. "You hate the idea so much, is that it? Huh. Huh."

"Ouch! Ouch!" Josh tried to avoid my punches with his hands. "Jake, make her stop!"

I huffed. "Yes, I told her they're mistaken. Aparently they saw us making googly eyes or something. I don't know. You ask them."

"I didn't know you guys were on speaking terms." Said Jake curiously. "And what's with the weird phonecall just now, anyway?"

And then I told them what happened.

Josh didn't look too pleased. "How could they say that to her? She didn't do anything wrong."

"They are jealous, that's what." I rolled my eyes while crunching on my chips. "They can't stand people that are liked by most,"

"A common disease nowadays." I added bitterly.

Jake glanced at me while I said it and Josh, feeling the tention, laughed it off awkwardly and offered me his extra barbeque. To which I devoured gladly.
