We rode through the forest as the trees were swayed by the autumn breeze. No sound was heard except for our poor horse’s hooves on the bare, dirt road. As we were engulfed in the black of night, critters crawled into overnight hibernation as nocturnal beings began to awaken.

The stars above twinkled in a reflection on the Gage Lake as we passed. We were less than a fortnight from The Burns. Heath was to my right, his breath cloud wavering before the wind pulled it away.

“What will happen when we reach Godly Bridge? I questioned Teal.

“I will have to let both of you off, I can go no further than the lantern” he answered.

The air changed then, it was denser. A low fog covered the ground around us. The wind was moist and stronger. It felt as if everything stopped moving. Heath had a very fretful look on his face.

We reached the bridge in the midst of night. Only the lantern had a spark of insanity. Teal left us as the cold, fall light started to shine. No one knew what was to come but me. I knew it all and much more.

Members of The Burns would soon find out what the name of their sanctuary really speaks.
