I woke up the next day, earlier than I usually do, and raced out the door in my practice clothes. I ran to the museum and threw my things down on the ground. This was the day where I got to be the opening act by myself! I wanted to perfect my routine for tonight so I began practicing straight away.

"Ember!"called Mr. Barnum. "Can I speak to you for a moment?""Yes of course, Mr. Barnum" I tied my waist around the rope and rolled down towards the ground. Landing on my feet I jogged over to Mr. Barnum. "Yes?" I asked. "Can you show Mr. Carlyle to my office please?" "Sure!" I said, although my heart was racing. "He is just outside the front" said Mr. Barnum. I smiled at him and ran out to the front. "Hi Mr. Carlyle" I said with a smile. He immediately looked up at the sound of my voice. "Hello Ms. Green" "Mr. Barnum has asked me to show you to his office" I said just staring at the ground. "Lets go then". I led him up to Mr. Barnum's office on the third floor. "Here we are"   I said pointing at the closed door. "Thank you Ms. Green". "Please call me Ember" "If you wish,Ember" Mr. Carlyle said, with a wink. He walked into the office as I ran back down to the tightrope and trapeze station. I practiced for the rest of the day until it was time for me to start.

I walked up to the platform and flipped onto the tightrope after a bit of a dance I jumped over to the trapeze bar. I flipped myself a few times grabbing back onto the bar and then launched over to the tightrope. This was the part. The part where I had to trust my fellow performers. I pretended to lose my balance and fell off the tightrope. The crowd gasped. Some screamed. But I was falling towards the ground back first and then felt about ten arms catch me. I could see Phillip in the distance staring at me with fear in his eyes. I flipped off their arms and took my bow.

As I ran backstage I ran into something. It wasn't a wall because it was to warm. I was about to hit the ground as two arms caught me. "Why hello again,Ms Gre.....Ember" "Hello Mr. Carlyle" I said my cheeks blushing. "Please call me Phillip"he said with a smile. "Alright then"I said regaining my balance. "Um Ember?"he asked quite shyly. "Yes?" "I was wondering if you would like to come to the theatre with me tonight?" "I'd love to!" I said with a big smile beaming across my face. "I will meet you at the front of the circus at 9"he said clearly excited."Okay then see you soon Phillip" I raced off to get ready.

It was 8 o clock and I had my hair fallen loosely around my shoulders. I was wearing my favourite red dress which my mother gave to me before she died.

It was ten to 9 and I was waiting  outside the front of the circus, people staring at me ,judging me by the colour of my skin

It was ten to 9 and I was waiting  outside the front of the circus, people staring at me ,judging me by the colour of my skin. But I didn't care. I was going to the theatre for the first time in my life and I was going with Phillip.I see someone running up to us as fast as they could. It was Phillip. "Sorry I'm late!" He panted. "Wow you look...beautiful" "Thank you"I laughed. I linked my arm through his and we collected our tickets. I had my head hung low as always, not wanting to cause trouble. "Hey lift your head up. There is no need to be ashamed of yourself." I smiled up at him. Suddenly a voice called "Phillip is that you?" "Mother,Father this is Ember Green." I smiled at them but hung my head low again as they gave me a glare.  "Phillip I am so ashamed that you are even in contact with that Barnum fellow and with someone who is a different colour!"his dad said not caring I was there. I stormed out of the building tears streaming down my face. I heard Phillip calling my name but I kept running. I ran into a protester who realized I was from the circus. "Lets show this little freak what happens to people like her."

They started kicking me and punching me I couldn't fight back. I was to weak. "Phillip!" I screamed out. Blackness draped over my eyes as I fell unconscious.
