I hung my head as we walked, the invasion had failed and we had to leave so many behind. “We're here” Toph announced at this I looked up to see we were standing at the edge of a cliff. Could this really be the Western Air Temple I asked myself as I looked down over the shear drop? Aang explained quickly chattering away telling us all how beautiful this place was as we climbed onto Appa.

On the underside of the cliff a whole city was carved hanging down from the rock, it was magnificent. Most of the others ran off but I stayed behind with the rest of the gang. The moment they disappeared I slid down the back of Appa’s tail to get a better look around but Katara insisted that we figure out a new plan. I followed them over to a pillar that had crumbled and took a seat on an unoccupied portion.

“So what’s the new plan” Aang asked slightly anxious to get this over with.

“Well if you ask me the new plan is the old plan. You just need to master all the elements and confront the fire lord before the comet comes.” Sokka said happily.

“Oh, yea that’s great, no problem. I’ll just do that.” Aang said rudely throwing a rock in his hand. I could understand his frustration but it was a plan he was just missing a fire bender to teach him. As long as I had traveled with them I hadn’t told them I was a fire bender and I was hoping I wouldn’t have disclose that now. I hadn’t heard the rest of what was said and finally came back to my senses as Aang dashed off.

“There’s gotta be someone who can teach him fire bending” Sokka mumbled trying to think of somebody, “Izumi, you’re from the fire nation do you know anybody” he asked me.

“My father” I said but then added, “last I knew he was still traveling with Zuko” I said as I realized just how much I missed him. We finally gave up and climbed on Appa to go find Aang. Appa easily caught up to him but Katara kept pushing the issue, I tried to turn her words out as I looked ahead of me to see Sokka’b back. He had become quiet adept at flying Appa. Aang lead us to a building calling something over his shoulder as we followed.

I got off Appa first and walked over to the pool of water, it was crystal clear turning I opened my mouth to say something to the others but was cut off as Toph said, “I think that’s going to have to wait. I looked to where she was pointing and saw Zuko a mixture of feelings began to bubble inside of me as I heard him speak awkwardly.

When everything was over I couldn’t say that I was disappointed that they had turned him away but on the other hand I felt back it seemed as though my cousin had truly wanted to help this time. It was getting late as we made camp for the night I had noticed Toph sneaking away but thought nothing of it. Morning came and passed and she had not returned. As the sun rose high in the sky she finally emerged from a stone wall, “My feet got burned” she said.

I walked away disappointed and worried I already could tell what had happened, I stood near the fountain as they lowered Toph in letting her feet soak. Suddenly the ground started to shake and all of our attention was drawn where a command came from, “Stop, I don’t want you hunting the avatar anymore” Zukko screamed at Combustion Man. As the attacks got fiercer we all hurried to cover.

“I can’t step out to water bend at him without getting blown up and I can’t get a good enough angle on him from down here” Katara stated giving Sokka an idea.

“I know how to get an angle on him” Sokka said peeking out from cover, when he stepped out momentarily to throw the boomerang I held my breath worried that he would be blown to bits. We all stepped out when the boomerang came back it had hit Combustion Man, I was proud of Sokka for once his plan had gone perfectly it seemed. When the man stood back up we all ran back to cover expecting another shot to be fired but something had gone wrong and it backfired.

Smiling I grabbed Sokka hugging him, “You did it” I exclaimed honoring him as the hero if it was only an excuse to hug him. Over the time I had spent traveling with the group I had developed a bit of a crush on the goofy boy. He had stiffened in my arms for a moment before hugging back and grinning down at me, “I did didn’t I” he said proudly. I gave him a quick peck on the cheek and smiled at the now blushing goofball, “My hero” I exclaimed jokingly but I meant it.
