"What are you doing to us?" Cole asks angrily. No reply. I huddle closer to him in case they try to hurt us. Suddenly, he points to the ceiling. They've started shooting a gas through a pipe and it's filling up the room. This could be just knockout gas, or it could be deadly. I start to feel drowsy. My head feels as light as air, and I slump against Cole and close my eyes. Ahhhhh. So relaxing.
A soft breeze rustles my hair. I'm having a picnic with Cole and my family. Charlie runs around the field we're in, chasing pigeons. Cole's laughing at something I said, and my mom isn't talking. I know this is a dream, but I try to pretend that it isn't.
Suddenly, mom stands up and looks at Charlie. I can see her screaming something, but I don't hear it. Two men appear from behind a tree and drag her away. I disappear from the field and appear in a jail. Charlie is in front of me. I see her life in fast motion. She goes from an adorable toddler to a teen in a matter of minutes.
The aging slows down around fourteen. I see Charlie sneak a knife from the pocket of a security guard. She brings it to her arm and runs it up towards her chest. I look away. I can't see this. When I force myself to look back a moment later, I scream. Charlie is on the floor, covered in blood, a smile on her face and a knife next to her hand.
I keep screaming until I feel someone shaking my arm. I wake up. It was a dream. My face is stained with tears. A woman in her early twenties is hovering over me with a concerned expression on her face. I sit up and scan my surroundings. I'm in a van. Cole is unconscious on the floor next to me, and there is another woman driving.
"I'm Felicite." The woman says, extending her hand. I smile as I remember when Cole and I first met. "Bad dream? The knockout gas is having some defects." She gestures towards Cole who is mumbling something. I walk over to him.
"Don't do it! NO. NO AVIA DON'T YOU DARE DO THAT! NO!" I shake him and he shoots straight up. "Thank god you're alive. I just had the most terrible dream. You killed yourself." He had the same dream as me, except mine was about Charlie, and his was about me. I decide not to tell him though.
I turn towards the woman driving. "So, where exactly are you taking us?"
