Avia

The sound of the car rolling down the highway lulls me to sleep. No bad dreams this time, thank goodness. I'm not asleep for long, and I pretend to be sleeping once I wake up. Finally I decide I'm mentally prepared to face humans again, and try to sit up. "She called while you were sleeping." Felicite says, referring to my mother. "Someone named Charlie wants to talk to you." She holds out the phone and I grab it. I completely forgot about Charlie yesterday. I was just too upset by mom.

"Charlie? It's me Avia."

"AYVEEEEE! Where did the big men take you? Are you at Disney Land?" Yes, even in this modern and technological world, children are still fascinated by Disney Land.

"Yeah Char, I'm at Disney and I wish I could come home but I can't. All the princesses say hi though."

"Bye! I have to make dinner. Mommy told me to make her food every night otherwise I get the paddle. Love you Avia!"

"Love you Charlie." I say, trying to hold back tears. That woman is making a four year old cook for her with punishment if she doesn't? I hang up and hand the phone back to Felicite. My perfect moment with Charlie turned in to something else ruined by my mother.

Felicite hands me a water bottle full of tea and I take it. I realize that I'm shivering. It's snowing outside. I was arrested in late August, and it's winter, so Cole and I have been in prison for at least four months now. "We're about an hour away from our destination." I look out the window and sip my tea. I never really appreciated snow before. I guess it takes being arrested to fully understand beauty.

Eventually Cole wakes up and joins me. I tell him how much longer until we arrive and hand him the tea. He sips it with a look of bliss on his face. I study his features. I never really got to see him in the light. The prison was always dark. The only thing I could always count on seeing were his eyes.

"How do you feel?" He asks.

"Angry. I mean, tens of thousands of us arrested, put through hell, beaten, injured, even killed, and only a select few are taken out? That's absolute crap. Also my mother is ruining her life as well as the life of her three-year-old daughter."

"Yeah. These people are insane. One night when you were asleep, I saw a guard shoot his foot. For a dare. I didn't see him ever again."

"People are idiots. What we can't understand, what humans don't get is that life isn't a game. People shouldn't be messing with it, you can't start over after your death."

"You know, it's really unhealthy to worry about others and focus on what's wrong with society." He grins at me.

"Well I guess I'm unhealthy then." He wraps me in a giant hug. "I really did mean it you know. About you being better then all of my fandoms combined. Its true." I let it hang in the air for a while.

"Ten minutes 'till we reach our long awaited destination." Felicite smiles and pops back in to the front.
