97.2 California's Premier High School Football Talk Show.
"Welcome back to 97.2! It's David and Allen once again discussing the upcoming high school football season. Allen, who do you think will be a top contender for the state championship this year coming right out of the gate?"
"Definitely Oakridge High School, David. After last year's 10-2 finish and a second round state playoff loss, they're prepped to come out hot. Maya Callahan had an incredible sophomore season following an amazing freshman season and all I can see is her just getting better from here. However, Callahan suffered a few minor injuries that you could clearly tell affected her playing which I think hurt them all. So, if she stays healthy, they'll definitely be champions."
"Wow, a lot of confidence Allen. Are you sure?"
"100%, I'm putting everything on this—."
I flipped off the radio. I was tired of hearing about a "successful" season where we didn't even get to the semifinals of the state playoffs.
I pulled my old truck into the student parking lot and sat there for a few minutes, just thinking. My sophomore year had been one of my best years yet, but the guy on the radio was right, my injuries had affected the way I played and unfortunately, those playing around me. I knew that this season was going to be different though, I could feel it deep within me.
There was a tiny little spark in me somewhere just waiting to explode. And when it did, I was going to be playing the best football I had ever played.
