My mum was worried, my father distracted and my brother obsessed. When I had arrived home, bandages' covering my knees with the dried blood stains on the outside she had immediately freaked. Her being a doctor meant I went through a full body examination just to make sure I had contracted an STI from getting down and dirty with the floor, would could say she was a little over the top. We now all sat at the large dining room table, the red placemats and yellow coasters clashing together beautifully, "Who set the table?" I asked with a quiz ickle look on my face, "Your brother!" she answered back, looking at him and then looking at me it was only moments after, when the damage was done that I went along with the notion. "Oh, well it looks great," and we lapsed into an awkward silence. As soon as the last person had set their knife and fork down I limped off towards the bathroom, eager to wash away today's dirt and confusion.

I switched on the harsh light of the bathroom, bleaching the cold white tiles in a white glow, my skin looked ill underneath the light, deathly, which was exactly how I felt. I turned the shower on full hot, leaving it to steam and fog the room up while I stripped of the blood stained clothes. When I thought the water would be hot enough to boil a lobster I hopped in, scalding my skin just the way I like it. The water slowly trickled down my legs and when it hit the blood soaked bandages I felt a sharp stab as it hit the raw pus covered skin. Ow, Ow, OW! "FUCKSHITBITCH!" conjuring up the 'nicer' swearwords that wouldn't enlighten my brother to anything new. Once I had struggled through the first few minutes of torment, the pain dulled to a low hum and my muscles started to relax, unwinding my confused mind. It wandered to the early hours of the morning, to the funny dream I had had. It couldn't be real, stuff like that doesn't happen.

Well...it does, but not lately.

I remember when the news showed only one thing for a whole month, it plagued you when you went out, scared you to look under the bed, kept you from walking in the dark.

Mutants.
