At first they had kept quiet, only a few select actually knew of their existence, kind of like area 51. They had been 'underground' the governments of the world finally said when people knew too much, but it was evident they were lying. It happened slowly at first, but if you payed attention, people were disappearing, never to be seen again.
I had a first-hand experience with this. A boy at our school was taken out of school suddenly, the principle had said he had left and moved country but I had happened to be in the wrong place at the right time.
Waiting for a meeting with the principle was a scary thing; the receptionist at the desk would sneer down at you, her callous grin knowing the hell you would go through when you entered his doors. It wasn't so much the guilt of what you had done wrong but the knowledge that all he had to do was look at you and you would confess, in my opinion he would make quite a good judge.
The continuous tap of the receptionists finger on the hard keyboard surface would only wind you up more, so that by the time you entered you were at breaking point and the meeting you end quickly, leaving space for more meetings and more nervous wrecks. As I was biting my nails, a yelling voice suddenly irrupted from his office, I flinched and the door opened suddenly, a boy called Dave stormed out, and it slammed shut with the chorus of shattering glass. His mother careened after him, and the principles voice echoed throughout the halls, "GET YOUR MUTANT FLITH OUT OF MY SCHOOL!"
I was left stunned, the reception left flustered and the principle remained red for the remaining of the meeting, and all I was there for was my mobile phone which had been confiscated from using in class.
But the thing that will never leave my mind is the last flash of Dave's eye when he left, a silver beacon that illuminated the room, sending beams of lights where-ever he looked, and the last place his eyes set on was me.

This was my only explanation for Matt's random behaviour, but I didn't- wouldn't believe Matt was one. Also, did mutants drink blood? I had heard that some are like lizards and ate bugs and yuck stuff like that, but never blood. It dawned on me, but as soon as it had I denied it completely. Vampires. Did. Not. Exist.
Sure I had read your typical Vampire books, Dracula, Interview with and Vampire and, yes, even Twilight, but nothing like that would make me believe there were these devilishly handsome creatures that preyed on beautiful girls and sucked them dry. I shuddered, at least I was safe.
I couldn't shake the feeling, with no hard core evidence apart from the fact that Matt was devilishly handsome, with his golden hair that shone majestically, his golden eyes which seemed to glow so bright and the beautiful yet startling muscles which toned his body. I had a case though, they were supposed to be stark white, the colour of death, and the last time I checked he was an appealing gold, just like the rest of his body.
